Just a thought guys, those quick release devices that you can buy from the stores are not that durable... In the long run of lock and unlock process, they tend to loose the firm lock and may cause the lock to unlock itself due to the weight of the camera, unlike those that are being sold as a Camera Strap, they are designed to carry the weight of the Camera.

You may be able to save a couple of hundreds but in the long run, your lens and cam might fall due to releasing of the lock.

My 2 cents

Maybe you can also use small keyrings on the body, and metal hooks (with locks) on the strap. Better be safe with our hard-earned gear!

might not be a good idea entrusting your 40K worth camera and/or lens to P200 bucks worth of straps and buckles...

but that's just me.

i think the best reason to veer away from the strap that came with your camera is to 'lighten' your load.
Optech, Lowepro and other brands mostly aim to reduce the weight you carry around your neck.  :D

having a quick release is secondary for me... or is it the no slip feature that is second for me :D
I remember using the quick release once, to change from an optech classic to a pro loop model :)  that's about it.

Same here, No. 1 reason I bought the Optech Strap is it's weight reduction feature secondary lang yung quick release.
Kaya nga yung Bag Strap naman ng Optech gusto ko so that I can enjoy the same weight reduction while carrying my bag. ;D

if you guys would like to try making quick release straps yourself try using the original branded "fastex" buckles these are designed to hold weight and are tested. they used to be standard for lowe pro until they made their own.

please post review of the diy neckstrap re allowable weight, for example 10 kgs. if readers are afraid of using it on their cams, maybe you can use it for your tripods.

wag ka magsisi sa op/tech mo coz i didn't. i started this thread pero opted to use op/tech instead after several weeks of posting this. the quick release buckles i was using was that reliable.

may i request for the mods to close this kasi baka ako pa ang sisihin kung may mangyari sa cameras nyo.  ;D

be sure to test the quick release mechanism thoroughly. some connecters release by itself accidentally.
