GUIDED BY LIGHT: Exploring Catanduanes
« on: September 25, 2011, 10:16:22 AM »
My first  trip to Catanduanes last July was rather untimely due to Typhoon Goring. We stayed at the Twin Rocks Resort in Igan which was just a few minutes away from Virac Airport. One of the reasons I visited the place was to get a shot of the "iconic" rock but sadly the rock no longer had its usual state as can be seen in this photo. So the following day I have to find another POV to get the most out of my trip :-(

On the third day we decided to visit Puraran in Baras, a place well known for its majestic waves from October to December. Surfers coming from Japan, Australia, etc. visit this place in these seasons. We arrived at dawn hoping to get a glimpse of the sun but failed although managed to get a few shots. The residents here are very friendly. Accommodation is cheap compared to where we stayed (i.e. P200-P400 per night). We had freshly caught "inihaw na isda" (forgot the name though) for breakfast and our total bill less less than P250 for 2-persons.

Shortly before lunch we left Puraran and headed to Bato where we made a quick visit to Maribina Falls and the historic Bato Church before calling it a day.

We revisited the place recently hoping for a much better weather than our first visit last July. We got lucky. A week after our visit Typhoon Pedring made a landfall in Catanduanes. We decided to stay at Puraran Beach this time.
