It was an exciting weekend games for the UAAP Season 73 Women's Volleyball. The most of which is the match between the University of the Philippines and the University of Santo Tomas. The Lady Maroons, who last beat the UST Lady Tigresses in the first round of  the 2008-09 season, pulled off a stunning 25-23, 13-25, 25-23, 20-25, 24-22 upset victory over defending champion to snap an eight-game losing streak. Prior to their match, Ateneo De Manila University streaked to its fifth consecutive victory with a 25-23, 25-14, 25-21 decision over National University.

For this set, I'd like to call this "The Ball In Between" series...

January 30, 2011. Ateneo De Manila University, now on its 6th straight victory, clobbered the Far Eastern University 25-17, 25-19, 25-19, in the 73rd UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena.

Kara Acevedo receives the ball, notice her arm on impact?

Continuation of "ball in between" set

The most decorated coach in Philippine Volleyball Roger Gorayeb who recently steared San Sebastian to their 6th straight NCAA crown. Congrats coach!

Many thanks padoods.

To answer your question, you'll need a media pass to be able to shoot the games at the Arena. Unfortunately, UAAP is not issuing these anymore since the the season is already about to end I think. Lucky for me and my friend, we were able to secure ours just before the season started.

I have a press pass from the national press club. will that suffice or do i need the UAAP specific one?

@blueshadow: wow! your jessica pics more than made up for missing out on the ADMU - DLSU game hehe

anyways, i had a BIG FAIL when I went to the san juan arena today with the intention of shooting the ateneo - adamson game. I had a long night last night and slept in late this morning and got to the arena only 30 minutes before the game. I underestimated greatly the number of people who will be watching the games and was greeted with a long queue at the ticket booth. That, coupled with this being my first time ever to shoot a UAAP volleyball match had me at a loss at what to do and where to go. I ended up just going home and deciding to shoot some other day.

Anyways, blueshadow, can I ask what the procedure for photographers when shooting UAAP volleyball. How early do you need to get to the games? And do you need to procure tickets or can you get in for free since may media pass naman. Where is the entrance for media? Is it different from those who are there just to watch? TIA bro!

@padoods: Sorry to hear that you weren't able to shoot the games yesterday. I too wasn't able to cover yesterday's games due to another personal errands. :(

Anyway, about your question. For photographers with media passes, the entrance would be at the left side of the venue same as where the players enters. You don't have to buy the game ticket, you just have to sign up in their logbook and show your id then you can enter for free.  HTH and see you at the Final 4. :)

by this you mean the organizer has formally informed you that flash photography is not allowed? in hoops action my friend usually shoots booth uaap and ncaa he never mentioned that type of a guideline however he prefers to shoot without the flash. thanks in advance.

Well, not actually informed formally but the venue announcer sometimes remind spectators that no flash are allowed when taking pictures of the game. Also by logic, flash won't help that much since the distance between the players and the photographer is quite far. Any sports photographer knows this general rule specially when shooting indoor sports. HTH. :D
