ND and CPL filters are often used with UWA lenses.  For filter thread sizes, the tokina UWAs (11-16 and 12-24) the canon 10-22, and the older sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 have 77mm filter threads.

For FF canons, the 17-40L and the old 16-35 L both have a 77mm filter size. The new canon 16-35L II and the newer sigma 10-20 f3.5 (for crop bodies) both have a filter size of 82mm.

@timtan: sorry, but I haven't tried the pro1D version of the ND8 yet, so I can't really say whether there's a big difference in output between the 2 filters

nd filters: nd8 (3stops) nd110 (10 stops)
gnd filters, the square ones..

As for thread sizes of filters.. practicality wise, get the largest size and buy step up rings..
