Hi Nikonians..!
Just wanted to share our DIY repair experience on a malfunctioned Nikon D60.
(I'm not sure if I placed this tip on the right forum area. hehe)
Anyway...
Incident:One day, your were just having your normal photo shoot, then suddenly appears on your LCD screen an error message
"Error. Press Shutter Release Button Again". And no matter how many times you press the shutter button it won't shoot, your camera simply doesn't function. Even though you remove and place back the battery, lens, and card it still wouldn't work.
The photo below is the actual error message displayed on the D60's LCD:
The Solution:You need to open up your Nikon D60.
***Warning*** Open your camera at your own risk. I'm not liable for any damage on your camera or anything about it if any.
But if your camera is still under warranty, I suggest you to use it.- Use a good condition screw driver so that your camera's screws wouldn't round up or loose its grip.
- Repair your camera in a well lit, clean, and organized area.
- NOTE: When removing and placing back any screws from the camera, make sure that those screws should be placed back on its proper original screw whole. Each screw has it's own measurement so that the camera's board wouldn't be damage...
STEP 1Unscrew carefully all the screws at the bottom of your camera body, as indicated in the photo bellow.
STEP 2Remove the camera's bottom cover smoothly and gently.
STEP 3Now that it's open, you can see a RED GEAR showing up. That's the problem here. And now, just touch the red gear and shake it a little (
alugin mo konti yung red gear) but don't turn or roll the gear.
STEP 4Take your camera's battery and place it on the battery compartment, push it so that it will have contact and power (place your SD card too). Then, while pressing down the battery, turn on your camera and do some test shot, press your shutter release button. There, now it starts to shoot perfectly! If not, try to shake that red gear again then place battery and make a test shot again.
STEP 5Now (if it's working perfectly), reassemble back your camera. Then do some test shot again.
NOTE: If the problem still occurs, try to do this tip found in Flickr by Steve Jackson:
"I had exactly the same problem with 'Error. Press shutter release button again' and i fixed it!
Here's how I did it.
Get a very small cross head screwdriver (watchmaker size)
A can of WD40
Sticky tape
A good light
Remove the Battery and SD card
Open up the bottom of the D40x putting the small screws onto the sticky tape in order of removal.
You might want to take pic with another camera so you know where all the screws go.
Then remove the metal plate (used for the tripod mount, you will need to remove the back of the D40x as well, it's only 2 screws)
Now look at John C Ayr's pic of the D40x www.flickr.com/photos/johncayr/3969534234/"]www.flickr.com/photos/johncayr/3969534234/
Spray a SMALL amount of WD40 onto the red and white gear wheels.
(Don't use so much that it drips down onto the optics, you don't want oil in there!!!)
Put the battery in and hold it down to make contact, put in the sd card and switch on the camera and try the shutter button. (switch it to manual focus or it might try hunting around for ages for focus)
It might start working, if not move the red wheel a few stops and try again.
Once it's lubed up and the wheels move it should be ok.
Keep taking pics until you feel it is ok.
Then reassemble following the screws backwards on the sticky tape.
Enjoy your D40x once again ;-)"
God bless and Good Luck..! =)
