keep the kit lens. mura lang naman yan. you won't get much for it if you sell it.

i used to have one (non-IS). sold it. then bought it again (IS version na). dead useful even if you have wide lenses. ako gamit ko siya for macro (with a reverse adaptor) and when i need a very light setup.

If i were you, i'll keep my kit lens and instead buy a flash first, then 50mm1.4 afd... :)
You could take more artistic shots with a 1.4.. :)

Depends on you :)

Me, I can say that I could live just shooting with the 35. It's because I used to shoot with just the 50 prime back when I was abusing my film slr.

But I think primes are there to complement your other lenses. The kit lens covers a really useful focal range, but comes short in dimly lit situations. That's where you need a prime.

Keep your kit lens :)

like nix tolentino my 35mm is always attach to my cam. i feel sorry for my 18-200 not being use anyomore. I like the sharpness and crisp of 35mm plus lowlight capabilities. My all around lens since i bought it last 3 months but still the decision is up to you. Hope this help

The f/1.8 won't AF on a D40. He did not say what camera he had.

Keep your kit lens and buy 50mm 1.8 much cheaper than 35mm
