you won't get much for the kit lens (assuming its the 18-55 kind). I suggest you keep it at least you have a wide angle when you need it.

wag mo muna benta kitlens mo, kung 35mm lang ipapalit mo, gaya ng sabi ni sir ortaliz, mawawalan ka ng wide angle.  :-\

i wouldn't sell the kit lens either if i were you. keep it and save up for the 35mm...you might find yourself in a situation were you need something wider.

I agree. Keep your kit lens and you will find use for it. Save up for the 35mm or other lenses to find out which one you need to compliment it.

My suggestion might help you decide if you can live without your kitlens.

Put your kit lens on 35mm - approximate will do. Then tape the lens barrel such that you can't turn the zoom. Just a little masking tape would do. Then shoot for a few days and see if you can live with the 35mm focal length.

Don't sell it!  ;D ;D

i had the 18-55VR and 55-200VR combo... when i bought the amazing 35mm f1.8, i felt the 18-55vr was redundant kasi konting steps lang forward or backward covered ko na yong 18-55 focal range... ngek, hindi pala  :( ... i found myself in situations when i had to take large group shots simultaneously with other fotogs --- they were using 18-xxx lenses so ok na sila at a certain distance from the group.  ako na naka-35mm, atras pa ako ng mga 4 steps para makunan ko buong group. in the end, i missed the shot kasi sa pag-atras ko, nakaharang na mga ulo nong ibang fotogs  :'(

...another time, we had to shoot a scene inside a room pero hanggang doorway lang kami puede pumuwesto (bawal pumasok sa room).  yong brod ko naka-kit lens (18-55) got a good shot of the scene.  ako naman na naka-35, atras na naman.  so you could imagine what the shot would look like (syempre yong doorway lang makukunan ko with a very narrow view of the room).  in short, i missed that shot again  :'(

... so, i got myself an 18-55vr (shouldn't have sold it)

like the others, yon po ang recommendation ko --- don't sell the kit lens; you are going to miss it.

Ken Rockwell's DX DREAM TEAM consists of the 18-55, the 55-200vr and the 35mm f1.8.  He has a very good point po.

but save up for the amazing 35mm f1.8; great in low-light and its super-duper sharp talaga; di po kayo magsisisi na pag-ipunan yon.

HTH  :)

Selling your kit lens is like depriving yourself of the wider focal length.Malayo yong 18 sa 35!!! You can go forward with your foot but mahirap paatras pag wall o kaya bangin yong nasa likod mo :D :D :D
Magkano mo man lang yan mabebenta? Laki pa iaabuno mo sa kulang. The benefits of keeping it out weights the benefits of selling it.Save ka na lang!!!

yap sayang kitlens mo, magdagdag ka nalang ng isa pang lens at list 2 lens ka na. para someday hindi ka magsisi. nawala na rin ata yung thread starter.
Need more input regarding photography.

shot with a 35mm on a wedding (singit photographer lang) and it would not really be wide enough for group shots. Alam mo naman mga group shots biglang dadami ang mga tao and you really have to step back. Tapos if low light pa then you are using a pop-up flash, medyo mabibitin na yun flash power kasi ang layo mo na. Keep your 18-55.
