trying IR photography...HELP
« on: October 31, 2009, 12:41:39 AM »
I am trying IR photography...please help identify what am I doing wrong...thanks...

I am using Hoya R72 IR filter...

Condition earlier was sunny (but a bit cloudy)...patches of blue sky can still be seen...

I have taken a pic of a green leaf and used it as my custom white balance...

I took pics at f4 and f5.6 with 20-second exposure...the pics when viewed unedited basically red in color...

I use photoshop to process the image file (both RAW and JPEG)...I can't seem to get the leave to turn white...

what am I doing wrong...and I do not know how to attach photos...he he he...

Sir, IR photography relies heavily on correct white balance. Creating a custom white balance is where the frustration starts.

Make sure you create a custom white balance shot properly.

Cheers!

i did search...and i was able to read up on it...

as per photobong, looks like my custom white balance is the culprit...based on my reading, my understanding was the custom white balance is created by just taking a picture of a patch of green grass or green leaf as long as the frame is field up with green...what i did not understand/realize is that i should take the shot with the IR filter on the lens...and the resulting "picture" is what I will use as custom white balance (which will be pinkish/whitish)...what happended to me is that my custom white balance is the very green patch of grass or the green leaf (he he he)...

anyway, will try again when the sun is out...hopefully, SANTI will not have any trail remaining and I can try again tomorrow...

thanks to all...
