I'm also a pc enthusiast. And I just upgraded my pc since my old pc (which is E6600, RoG Mobo, 2GB ddr2, wd raptor, etc) is already 3 years old, and it's past its lifetime (for me).

From my experience, the parts you should invest on to have significant speed in photography softwares are:

SSD (Solid State Drive)
- all read and write occurs in your drive, so an SSD as your O/S drive is good.

Processor
- I advice those Intel Core i7 (either the 1156 or 1366 sockets) since they get faster once they only process single or double threads.

Memory
- DDR3 are the new fast memories nowadays. Just make sure to get those speed of at least 1600 and latencies of at least 7/8.

But for me, prioritize the memory and SSD, these really make a big difference in real world performance.

And btw, if ever the Dell Ultrasharp U2711 become locally available or I can ship it, I will get it immediately. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=224-8284
