PA OT nga uli :P

I looked at the price of a 1TB (1000GB) Hard Drive it's at 4800 pesos, so it's like Php4.80/Gigabyte of storage... 5 pesos per GB, you want a backup, let's get another Hard Drive 10 pesos per GB na, it's reasonably cheap.

Saving 100 Files (RAW-NEF) from a D90 just consumes 1GB, 5 pesos, and a DVD (4.7GB) costs around 6 pesos @ CDR-KING which store over 400 pictures for around 6pesos.

Next year cost for HDD storage will be at 2-3pesos per GB at which point, it's no longer trivial, it's dirt cheap.

GOING BACK ON TOPIC

At the moment I am diligently looking at alternatives (or at least within the same "reasonable" specs) to the D700, I must admit, it's on it's own at the moment. I can wait until 3rd quarter 2010, hopefully by then I'll have my FX line lenses complete.

I'll hold on to my 120k (yeah, I like CDSC units for things as exepensive as this) and pray really hard to the DSLR gods for Nikon, Canon, Sony and all the other manufactures comeup with a good prosumer camera lines.

I hope it goes down to a little under 100k. That would be a good alternative to the D300s that seems be having a debut at 96k (don't quote me on this though, it's Mang Ramon's)

Or you can wait longer, like till the year 2015. By then you can probably pick up a D3X for closer to 50k.  ;) Cheers!

Hmmm.. as I've said earlier I can wait only until 3rd quarter 2010 .

with the current line up of nikon, its a bit difficult to say what will happen next, but this is how think the near future will look like (say 2 to 6 months) with the entry of the d300s,  and the rumoured appearance soon of the d700x (21mp), the d700 will have to be phased out, the price of the d700 cannot go below 100k because it will affect the sales of the d300s, maybe around 100k to 110k and the d700x priced at 140k to 150k (dont expect a significant price drop for the d700)

I think Nikon will employ a similar strategy to the one they used with the SB800 and SB900. They'll likely phase out the D700 so people will buy the D700x. This approach will also ensure a decent price disparity between the D700x and the D300s

I'm not convinced the D700 (and therefore the D3 as well because they share the same sensor) will be phased out because that would mean that there will no longer be any high FPS, high ISO body for Nikon...unless of course there are plans for a D700S/D3S. It seems though that the D700/D3 are the current implementation of their S versions.

i dont think that the sensors will be much better with the "S" increment. when nikon puts an "S" in the body number,it usually means that the shutter speed was improved. like the case of the F4S(na nilagyan lang ng motordrive) which one of my friends bought in the early 90's. the "X" increment designates a better sensor, just like the case of the D40X and D3X...

the D700 is being sold for 105kphp somewhere as a brandnew unit. it may go down to 95kphp by the end of this year i suppose... :o :o :o but then, the D700 will be an old camera by that time. pero ok lang...its still a great camera pa naman.

at this point ,i am actually thinking if i really need or want to go FX,since DX is more than enough for me ::)

will Nikon answer with a price cut on the D700 or release a D700x?

I'm sure most Nikon users would hope that Nikon prices the D700x at this level.  Even Canon users would want this as this puts Canon in a corner to cut the 5D mkII's pricing.

The only exception is if you just bought a D700 or a 5D mkII.  Then again, this is life in the digital realm--better, cheaper bodies is always just a matter of time.  What you're really paying for is the ability to use the newest of features before something better rolls along.  :D

That is painfully true. I really like the role that Sony is playing here. I hope it is effective in dragging the prices of high end cameras down. If the C and the N cameras won't reconsider their pricing maybe in the future some will try out sony's...I just hope it(sony) can find the right combination for a CaNikon killer camera.
