Japan's economic recession is officially over yesterday.  This could trigger the Yen to shoot up!  If the yen goes up, it'll drive Camera equipment and gears up because of lower USD value.

It all depends how they price it.  If the D700x has the same sensor as the D3x, then I think it will be priced high accordingly.  If this is true, I don't expect the D700's  price to drop much if at all.

You should however be mindful of the rumored 7D and Alpha 850. If indeed they are 2,000USD or below full frame cameras with comparable features xxxx

Whoppee ....considering that Nikon sensors come from Sony .... time to have the beercan and other fab minolta lenses cleaned! :-)

the d300s is priced lower than the d300 when it came out.  I can see the prices of d300 and d90 falling down in the next few months.  d300 will hold at 50k level.  d700 won't be affected, iba ang ff market.  d700x might be a bit higher than the d700 now.  and d3x might have its price adjustment by then.

d700x might be a bit higher than the d700 now.

I'm thinking it's going to be more like "A LOT" higher....

This is a difficult call for me.  I think there are many possibilities.

The D700x will likely draw direct comparisons with the 5DmkII.  If price will be comparable, the D700 pricing is likely to stay put.  There is also the coming 7D.

The much-ballyhooed Sony FF seems to be coming in the mid $2k mark.  Again, this suggests that D700 pricing will stay pretty much put.

OTOH, if Nikon decides for he D700x to be price aggressive vs. the 5DmkII / rumored 7D, the Sony, etc., and prices the D700x closer to where the D700 is now, then we hopefully see a sub-$2k FX body.

Like with anything digital (cameras, computers, mobile phones, etc.), buy the best you can afford that meets your needs today.  If you wait for "something better and cheaper," you'll end up not enjoying the capabilities of technology today since you'd end up endlessly postponing your purchase.  This explains why I still shoot with my D70.  :D

Hayz... D700...

I have a couple of months to decide...

D300s will also be another options, if I can't get to FX... I'll have to settle with the best DX has to offer then.

i love the d90 its like a mini d700. a d700 without the weight and it has video! ;D but hardcore shooting d700 tlga lalo dahil FF sya. FF is the way to go in terms of lens investments. you may want to consider the d90 muna or the d300s then invest much on FX lenses which you can always use sa DX bodies anytime naman.

i'll be pissed if d700 prices drop. pero well, the rule still holds - invest on lenses more than the body.

in any case you really can't go wrong on all your options. all these bodies mentioned performs well the only thing you have to do now is be a better photographer, shoot more! ;D

if you want another useless headache - i saw doc carlo use his d3 with an 85mm prime, i can here the AF humming ultrafast! as in i know its faster than my d700, that AF speed kasi i need the way i shoot stuff, grabe tindi, galeng! :o ;D

so mag D3 ka na lang... ;D ;D ;D

I seriously doubt that...that's just not Nikon's style....There seems to be no reason for them whatsoever to do that.  For that to happen, they have to drop the price of the D3, D3X and D700 too.  Ngayon pa na nagtaas ng price yung nikon...

I tend to agree with you, rainmaker.

In this recession, high end electronics manufacturers seem to betting on margins vs. volume as reported on the recent German A/V show.

If I were Nikon (or Canon), I'd price high.  It's easier to drop prices later regardless if its during recession or boom times.

higher end nikons don get out as often as the lower end models...so its safe to say that the D700X or what ever will not come out as early as anticipated.

While we wait for D700x or D700s, here's something to ponder about.....  hehehe

It's not how many lights you use, but how they are placed.
