Macro lens + Teleconverter
« on: June 11, 2009, 03:56:09 PM »
Hi!

I have a Canon 100mm macro lens and I'm planning on getting a teleconverter to increase magnification. (Don't like ET since focusing distance is screwed.)

I've read that it degrades the sharpness since a new glass element is introduced.

My question is by how much? Maybe it won't be visible in prints or a high f-stop can compensate.

There are only a couple of google searches that had sample images and having a reply in our local forum seems better for me.  :D

I used a kenko 1.4x teleconverter with my tamron 90mm and it gave me a substantial increase in focusing distance from the subject such as giant cicadas in the tree bark but there is a noticeable decrease in quality. However, since the beginning IQ was already excellent the decrease was still very acceptable to me. I did not notice whether the magnification was increased though which i know would occur with extension tubes.
