What's the widest (non-fisheye) canon prime lens?
« on: June 03, 2009, 09:43:33 PM »
Was just wondering. What's the widest rectilinear Canon prime lens? And what's the price range for wide primes?

canon ef 14mm f/2.8L I at II. since L sya, mahal sya. tsaka mahirap gumawa ng rectilinear na ultra-wide prime lens. More than 100k ata price nito ngayon. :D

kung widest rectilinear lens naman, nikon ata may gawa 13mm prime. ;D

Niether canon manufactured nor prime, but there's a 12-24 zoom lens for 35mm made by Sigma..

Hm, the 14mm L is pretty expensive. Are there any non-fisheye primes between canon's 14mm f2.8 L and the 24mm f1.4L?

How about frm 3rd party manufacturers?

there's a 14mm sigma. next to canon's 14mm is the 20mm

i agree with rench's suggestion, the sigma 12-24 is an ultra wide rectilinear zoom lens which is FF compatible

Thanks for the quick responses.
It seems a bit surprising that there aren't many wide primes out there. I'd have thought that construction of ultrawide zooms would be more expensive than making wide primes.

thanks to these threads i make new discoveries (and gastos! hehehe!) almost every week

sigma 12-24 looks like a good enough (and maybe better?) alternative to the 16-35L.  i'll include this lens in my wishlist when i finally get my 5D MKI  ;D
