Are you interested to help us do a project with Autism Society of the Philippines Davao Chapter. Helping Autistic children discover Photography and have a photo exhibit at a mall in Davao City. "Touching People's lives thru Photography". If you are interested please email me at john.magiceye@gmail.com. We are tapping Canon to help us on this project and maybe we can do a mini workshop too. Touching People's Lives thru Photography has no limits... Whether Nikon or Canon, or any other brand... we shall teach them how to use a Point and Shoot camera. No High end camera here but lots of love and caring. We are all in this for the love of Photography. Passion ika nga. specially if we can help other people and change their lives thru photography. I am inspired by so many responds I received in my email. We shall lay the ground work for this project. Thank you, I shall post in this thread as we go along. John

Thank You, Malenzhe, Congratulation on your winning this year's Canon Marathon. You deserve to go to New Zealand, What strike me most about your winning image is the simplicity of the image. No fancy filters nor exotic lenses... Just being there at the right time. Alert. Remember - you eating the hopia while waiting for the lunch to come. somehow being aware of your surrounding and anticipating that moment when the little boy look at his father. Timing... Thats it. Capturing that moment. for me I wasnt interested what camera or lenses you use. It could have been a Point and Shoot camera and still comes out a winner. John

As for "inspiring us every time Canon have events... true. but I am not working for Canon. I still pay for my equipment which I get more discounts in R Hidalgo than in Canon. But Canon has always support my projects. whether Pipho, ASP, Blind Kids and even the Manila Zoo. Thats why I am all out for Canon. But it doesnt mean I would be turn off by Nikon Users. Nope. we are all in this for the love of Photography... what ever brand we have. Passion..is the same. MagicEye

Datu,

I am also excited to go down there too. Hopefully get to meet with you and share my experiences with the group. May Canon can arrange a Mini Workshop together with this project. WHy not ?

I just learned there is Fanatic Photographer Society in Davao. I would like to meet the members and maybe we can work this project thru them.

Thank you so much for your interest in help this project. May I have this opportunity to give you a little background of what we did last summer here in Manila.
Last April while scouting for a location to shoot for a cigarette ad I met Mrs. Angie  at the CCP terminal. She has a special child - Ian. I invited them to visit Mali - my "pet" elephant and took pictures of them Hoping with these images, they would remind them of the beautiful experience at the zoo when "things" get rough as we all know about autistic children. The father was so impressed with the photo and ask me for an advice. Simply I said " Get Ian a camera ". Thus Ian become a photographer - taking us into his own world thru his images. His photos hits the front page of Philippine Daily Inquirer (Twice). Instant celebrity. People around him began to take notice of his talent. He starts making friends and always bring his camera. He has seizures at time and twice his camera was damaged. Canon thru Mr. A was impressed with his images - gave a lifetime guarantee to his camera. Free repair. :D So far he has appeared on Unang Hirit  ;D two photo exhibits ( SM North the Block and MYC ). The family and relatives are awed by his talents. He is more confident in making friends including the dragon boat rowers ( he lives in a yacht at the CCP terminal). One of his Tita is planning to have a photo exhibit with him. Recently we went to Navotas fishing port (together with fellow Pipho Pubert). I believe that Photography has change Ian and improved his relationship with his family and his friends.
With this personal experience, we moved on with the help of Pipho members like Pubert, Sarked, Bo, Caterpillar and Castor_troy work with Autism Society of the Philippines thru Ms. Dang Koe and taught 10 CWA how to use a Point and Shoot cameras for a Day at the Zoo. We made a big difference with them specially with their parents. Its BONDING time and we create beautiful memories for them to remember.
Here are some of the images we took that day

The Participants from the ASP

The Briefing Room - where the photographers were introduced and pointers given out to the participants and their parents.

The shooting

Of course, the volunteer photographers have opportunities to shoot too  :D

Henry has become my "zoo assistant" for Mali. Most weekend He likes to come and give Mali a bath.

And Group HUG

I am just waiting for more information to come in from ASP Davao Chapter and I will list down the names of the photographers who would be helping us in this project.

More on this later...

In the meantime, the volunteers could check this article on Photography on Children with Special Need

Thank you

John
