tripod suggestions...
« on: February 15, 2008, 01:31:44 PM »
guys, im thinking about buying  a tripod which could support my gear. these are the gear that i have at the moment nikon d80 w/ the following lenses; 105VR, 18-200VR, tokina 28-80 f2.8 & 12-24 f4. i need the tripod to be as compact and light as possible without compromising the load limit that the tripod can handle. the price would also be an issue (budget would be around $150-300 or php6,500-13,500). what models can you suggest?

this is one of the tripods that i was able to search at adorama.com

rands,

the Manfrotto 190xb is nice.

why not also consider the Manfrotto 190xprob?

the 486RC2 ball head should be sufficient.

i'm planning to get the 190xprob and the 486rc2.  fortunately, island is always out of stock.  ;D

If "as compact and light as possible" is a real concern, perhaps you might consider the Velbon Ultra Luxi SF.  Am happy with mine, having replaced the head with the same Manfrotto 486RC2 that you're eyeing (per your Adorama reference).  My 2cents.  Cheers!

thanks tony. though i already settled for the items on the links above. kinda in a hurry to get the tripods as i'll be using them soon.

btw,  i just noticed that i interchanged the links for the tripod and head in correspondance to the adorama site. hope this doesn't confuse anyone.

Just got a Velbon P-max Tripod, super compact, super light, priced nice, perfect for travelling.  Downside is its kinda short when expanded and the pan head is not replaceable.
