My best 25 birds by liquidstone

After...

1. 15 months of DSLR bird photography (since April 2004),
2. Thousands of miles of travel (Davao to Cebu to La Union, and many places in between),
3. Countless hours of trekking and waiting,
4. 4 DSLR bodies, more long glass than my pocket can afford,
5. 175 species captured (out of the Philippines' 580) in over 40,000 bird pics

... I finally forced myself to select only 25 bird pics. Here's the gallery:

Comments are welcome.

Cheerps,

Just like my comment on your gallery these photos will be part of Phillippine photography history. Specially you as the photographer! ;)

Remarkable images Romy! Looking forward to shoot with you again sometime..
PS. Dapat tinago mo yung tokina mo.. first ever birding lens :)

liquidstone - July 17, 2005 05:42 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Regie!

I still have my beloved Tokina 80-400, my first long glass. If used right, it can take some decent images too.

Here's one captured when you, Bobby T. and I tried our 300Ds at Manila Zoo a long time ago - 300D + Tokina 80-400, 250 mm, wide open (f/5.6), 1/250 sec, ISO 800, hand held:

Cheerps,

Thanks all for the nice words.

I originally wanted a Top 10. But my first selection totalled over 120 birds. I have to do several rounds of internal debate and elimination, and hit a brick wall at about 30 - 35 birds. Then I compromised and increased the number to Top 25. ;)

liquidstone, your photos of these birds are great ! How were you able to get all the scientific names? (tongue twisters) Ive very little info as far as birds are concerned, and get a little more educated with each photo I see.

Thanks. As an amateur birder, I have several books/guides on the birds of the Philippines, and the most comprehensive is the Kennedy Guide.

For more info on Philippine birds, one can also browse the following sites:

dulber - September 26, 2005 01:21 PM (GMT)
my respect to you, sir... for your patience and passion
great images! I've been dreaming of capturing images of a couple of king fishers residing here around our village. And there's also a great white owl across the highway.
Alas, the act is still relegated to dreams...

Thanks for the links, as well.
I'm no birder but I appreciate their presence and always held in awe by their beauty and diversity.
