When shooting BIF, forget about composition ( do this in pp), keep your subject in the middle of the frame or at least within that inner circle and practice your tracking skills by following the movement of the subject. On the technical side, use center focus, AI Servo focus mode and maintain at least a Tv value of 1/1000, use the HH burst mode. Depending on the light, you might wanna bump your ISO to get to this Tv value. If you can, track your subject handheld but you can do it too using a tripod, it's rather difficult though. Long lens is always recommended but that's relative to how close you get to your subject.
