Just when we thought it was done and over with for the year, now Canon does this!

The ef 200mm f2.0L IS

The ef 800mm f5.6L IS

And how it stacks up with the other  big guns:

And the official press release:
http://www.usa.canon.com/templatedata/pressrelease/20071015_eflens.html

 There goes the neighborhood!

Bunny D. is NOT going to like this  Huh

  Time to sell the car?

  Or mortgage the house?

That 200 f2L IS is going to be the  new dream lens to own by some people!

lol!  As long as it's the house or car only that you are selling, and not your soul Grin

Well, in fairness, these lenses will not be released this year. Next year maybe? We don't know.

What we do know is they are under development and are to be released in the future. There's still time to do the overtime at the office (as if), and prepare for this lenses, for at least the 200mm f2L IS, w/c I think will be the preferred lens by many. I bet though that this lens will be in the U$4k range, maybe U$4,500.

It's just a couple of days for these prototypes to be exhibited in NY. We'll wait and see if they will let people take pictures with it. Or at the worst, just oogle at it from behind a glass case. Angry

I can sell you mine, it's just a litle "woody".  But still very sharp!

I have the f/1.8, and its tack sharp.  I think it may have to sell just a little higher.

Has been phased out maybe 3 or so years ago. Something to do with it using lead in glass or the making of it.

Kikkoman's copy is environmentally sound, but was not popular because it was a fire hazard. And there were instances that they were used as wood fuel in fire places by accident  Wink  There was also criticism that it would be susceptible to termites. I heard they were planning to release a mk2 version of it, with special coatings, but the special deal with Solignum didn't push through!  Cheesy Wink

So, they just went back to the traditional design.  Shocked
