I'm from pasig and everyday dumadaan ako sa Pasig River... what I've noticed during the era of Fidel V Ramos eh lumilinis na ng konti due to his wife's project. Pero ngayon, mukang napabayaan na...

Oh well.. meron naman talaga pag asa... hindi lang pinpansin ng karamihan.

thanks for the comments guys...siguro in our little way we can open the eyes of our countrymen to these realities and maybe....spur exchange of opinions.

I was with a group of tourists ...mostly Japanese at Fort Santiago who also had a field day shooting this dreadful scene....siguro akala nila tourist attraction ito.

Sana pwede ko rin mashare rito ang stink ng lugar..hehehe.pero sobra na yon

I recall a Brit client back in the late 90s who proposed to revive the Marikina River by operating on a BOT arrangement a water treatment and purification facility there.  He showed lab tests indicating that the fecal coliform content of water samples from the Marikina River was one of the highest in the world, beating  Mexico City and Beijing. He explained that unregulated and unzoned settlement areas of adjacent riverbank lands, coupled with leachate from Payatas made this possible.

In disbelief, I remarked that the pollution of the Pasig River tops the charts.

Jokingly, he quipped that in the Pasig, fecal coliform can't survive.

Finding it funny at first, I later on realized how potent and dangerous the toxins and chemicals dumped there can be to most of us residents who cross or encounter it daily.

A solution in my opinion is to create a ten-meter easement along the entire riverbank. Costly, it will be but certainly cheaper than the social and healthcare costs of Metro Manila's 10 million daytime residents.

there's a rehab project which was jointly organized by ming ramos, women in travel manila, some local government units (including marikina i recall) to beautify the banks and cleanup the river a few years back. it was supposed to emulate what the south africans did to some of their riverbanks. this was organized after the original project of ms. ramos.

i just don't know what's the current status.

@goodbeachboy: love your photo bro.

photography is about vision. as a photographer, once should be able to show not only beauty, but tragedy as well. it was a beautiful photograph, not only aesthetically, but because it raises awareness of topics we don't really talk about.

i hope there really would be a way that we can use the convergence of so the many photographers here to try and make people outside more aware of these things.

If you guys wanna shoot sa Pasig river, the liwasan is a good venue for it.

You just walk behind it and voila!

Independence day is also a good time to do it because medyo mas relaxed ang mga pulis regarding photographers with big DSLRs.

I did this last year and was rewarded with lots of images that otherwise I would not have been able to take because of securinazis.

Good luck po sa inyo.

guys thanks for posting....

i know a photographer who works for the laguna lake development authority (LLDA) i think i can arrange a river tour so we can shoot from the banks and on the boat (they have an boat which is not airconditioned.  Tapos pwede pa tayo makakuha ng security clearance (some areas are no shoot zones).

I hope andon pa sya.

But then as Dave said...its nice to shoot during d coming holiday.

Tell me if youre interested so we can do the necessary arrangements... Wink
