Hello friends,

I am new here so I wish to send you all warm hellos and good vibes. :) The primary reason I created this account is to ask for your advice/experiences/thoughts on the best (mid-range) mirrorless compact /interchangeable lens camera. (I am thinking of giving up my Canon 7D and instead buy myself a mirrorless compact /interchangeable lens camera.) I know DSLR is still the best one for serious photography (I am a hobbyist but of course, I am not closing the door for possible professional work in the future...why not?)  ;)

However, at the moment - I need a camera that is lighter to bring during travels and work assignments. So if you have good recommendations, please let me know. (Hwag masyado sa high-end ha, e.g., the great Leica models, for obvious reasons - they are quite expensive.) Yung pwede kong mabili rin agad if I am able to sell my 7D.

You may also comment on the following brands/models:
Olympus OM-D E-M10 (or the M1)
Sony Alpha 3000 (or 6000)
Samsung NX1 / NX 500/ NX1
Fujifilm X-T1 (although admittedly, this seems to be still in the high-end range?)

Thank you all in advance! God bless!

For portability then try sony rx100 ver 3 /4 or panasonic gm5 with kit lens...imho....otherwhise i will just stick with the 7d plus 35mm prime.

Omd em10 for me. Fast AF even in low light plus you get great lens line-up from micro 4/3. Olympus ibis is very effective.  :)

Salamat sa mga advice nyo, @retina, @raffy_eos7D, @50mm, and @pitbull!

I have compiled all your recommended brands and will research for reviews online. At least now, I have few brands to start with.  ;)

I was not considering Canon M3 but with what you said (@50mm), I will also read reviews about the M3.

Salamat ulit! For those who still want to advice me or share feedback - they are very much welcome and appreciated! God bless you all!

The M3 lags behind its competition but it's far from a bad camera. I used it for two weeks in Japan and the only thing I really didn't like was the delay between shots. For casual shooting, even just the EF-M 22mm is already great.

Thank you, @ninjapeps! Will definitely consider M3. I read that Canon has stopped selling it in the US...not sure if this is true? It will be my first time to use a mirrorless and medyo excited. hehe. But in the meantime, got to sell my current camera first and then make a final decision.

Thank you again. Will visit your site soonest. Cheers!

Same boat as with you....i sold off all my Nikon and shifted to Fuji...

i was considering either EM10 MK2 or X-T10....in the end, parang mas ok sakin ang Fuji system, so I went for it.

my wife has a canon eos m mirrorless which i sometimes borrow. the good thing about it is that it has an aps-c/crop sensor. so image quality should be the same as your 7d. with the 18-55 stm lens, sakto pang travel camera ni kumander and if she wants it even more compact, she can put on the 22mm f2 stm.

i bought a canon adapter so i can use my canon ef lenses (pero malaki na siya).

only issue with it is the slow autofocus. so hindi siya pang-sports.

the m3 should have faster autofocus. di ko na chineck kasi ok na si wife sa m.

No, Canon has just started selling the M3 in the US. If you can, buy a kit that comes with an EVF.

M3's AF is faster than the original M but still not good enough for sports, though that seems to be true for all mirrorless cameras right now.

Thanks so much, @ninjapeps, @wewoy_romero, @karloil, and @pogzz505! I tried replying individually to all of you but I am not sure what happened - after clicking "post" nawala ako sa site. :)

Anyway, will try to retype...hihi!

@ninjapeps - good to know that M3 is faster! Anyone of you knows how much is it these days?

@wewoy_romero - seems your wife likes her M a lot! How much is the adapter and how long has she/you been using it?

@karloil - mukhang ang ganda nga ng specs ng Fuji X-T10! How much and where did you buy it? How long mo na sya ginagamit? When you gave up your Nikon system, did you have any regret? Will you still go back to DSLR?

@pogzz505 - yes, I am happy with 7D! It's just that it's becoming a little heavy during travels especially if I have a laptop/tablet with me. I need to sell it so I can shift to mirrorless but I am not closing my door completely on DSLR. Perhaps it is still good to have a DSLR + mirrorless pero yun nga, I want to shift to mirrorless at this stage.

Thank you, guys again! I appreciate your feedback, advice, and time!  :) [I hope this gets posted successfully this time!]

wife is happy with the camera. hindi siya photo techie so na-appreciate na niya it is easy to use (parang phone cam lang since touch screen siya) tapos digicam size lang. pero she knows how to appreciate photo iq dahil na rin sa akin.

truth is, hinihiram ko siya paminsan-minsan or yun na lang dinadala namin in lieu of a big, bulky dslr.

my post below october of last year. hope this helps.

got one here in the US for around $300 for the body and the 22mm pancake. dagdag $50 for an ef adaptor (whitebox). didn't get the 90ex flash anymore since i have a small 270ex at home i can use with it (which is also more powerful and can do bounce) but only slightly bigger than the 90ex.

so far playing around with it, ayos na ayos. already had the updated firmware for AF. mabilis naman af. not for action shots talaga but other than that, it's very good. i'm comparing it with my 50D + canon 17-55 2.8 IS setup which i brought with me here for the trip.

i tested the 17-55 on it using the adapter and everything functions ok (af, is, etc) but is a little awkward with the big lens. bagay dito yung mga small primes.

this will be replacing the samsung nx100 (aps-c mirrorless) i got for my wife.

i say it is a very good camera - for those upgrading from a point and shoot and for those with dslrs looking for a small backup/alternative to their bigger cameras.

TS - ang dami na talaga natin on this situation! hahaha! :)

now also selling my 70D, to shift to mirrorless. just like you, I want to travel light. I travel a lot because of my work, pero sad to say, hindi ko nadala yung dslr cam ko this year on my trips... not even once. with the laptop and tablet, yup, palaging left behind ang dslr... and just depend on phone cam :(

have plan on getting a Fuji system, when I already have the funds. also consulted some of the gurus in this forum mid this year and was able to limit my options... and now leaning on the X-T10. mukhang ito na yung suited sa photography need ko. btw, I'm also a hobbyist.

well, if Santa grant my wish this Christmas, maybe I can keep my 70D, hehehe! :)

btw, the eos m has a menu for using eyefi cards. so tuwang-tuwa si kumander pag nagtatravel kami dahil natatransfer niya agad sa phone yung pictures tapos upload agad sa fb/instagram.

If i may share some inputs also. Currently have an omd em5. Thinking of switching to fuji mainly because of bad feedback on their after sales service. Though my unit is out of warranty already, and i havent personally experienced it. If youre going m4/3 maybe you can try lumix instead.

Good luck!

i got it for S$1356 from an online retailer (18-55 kit). no regrets! and gaya nga ng sabi ng iba nating ka members, i also tend to leave my dslr behind on trips mainly due to its weight. i shoot landscapes and street, so this body is sufficient. maybe pag nag shoot ako ng airshow saka ko lang ma mi-miss ang dslr ko - pero that's just once, twice a year so no worries. will i still go back to dslr, for this time being, no  ;)

Thanks so much, @wewoy_romero, @MixtureOfLightAndWater, @bean, @raffy_eos7D, and @karloil!

@wewoy_romero - thanks for the additional info and the pricing ideas! That will surely be in my short list.

@MixtureOfLightAndWater - sobrang related ako dyan! :) These days, it's a little 'tiring' to bring a DSLR ano?! Oo nga, Fuji X-T10 seems to be a good option given the features and the price. And yeah, ako rin, if only I don't have to sell my 7D and still get a mirrorless!  ;D Pero, medyo hindi rin kasi practical if I keep it then it will just gather dust. Might as well sell it so that someone else will put it into good use di ba?

@bean - thanks for the suggestion also! Yes, I also heard about the after-sales issues with Olympus. That is why I may lean towards the Fuji or Canon systems...but not yet 100% decided!

@raffy_eos7D - mukhang ok din ang Lumix LX100 pero for some strange reasons, hindi sya pumapasok sa top 5 or top 10 sa 2015 lists. Strange...

@karloil - parang malapit na akong ma-swing talaga sa Fuji hehe!

Thanks again, everyone!!!  ;)
