Thom Hogan gave his view on the dxomark 7D Mark II hullaballoo Do You Believe in DxOMark?

Quote
Even though those DxO-reported numbers aren’t what I’d expect in my images, they do tell me something: I might be able to dig more shadow detail out of the D7100 image than the 7DII image at base ISO, all else equal. That’s actually no surprise. This has been true of the Sony versus Canon sensor difference for quite some time now. If you’re a big fan of cranking the Lightroom Shadow slider to max, you’re going to be doing more noise correction on a Canon than a Nikon. Nothing’s changed here. However I’d point out that neither camera is likely to be able to hold extreme landscape situations in a single exposure: I’d still be bracketing and applying HDR type techniques to construct images in such cases. Thus, whatever the actual numeric difference in dynamic range between the 7DII and D7100 is at base ISO, it really wouldn’t make much of a difference to my workflow. I might adjust my bracket sets on the Canon to be a bit different than the Nikon to account for the difference in how they handle shadows, but that’s it. Bottom line, I’d get the same image.

I’m pretty sure DxO is rigorous in its testing methodology. Whether the things they’re testing are completely useful in describing image quality is another story.

This whole Dxomark issue reminds me of Commercial Aviation's Skytrax awards, which has become an industry joke, as their awards are based on how much an airline advertises with them.

What can't be denied though is how impressive the 65 all cross type AF almost entirely covering the image area is. I think users of this camera would much rather have their subjects in focus as one can't fix an out of focus image in post.

When prices stabilize, the 7D Mark II with EF 400mm F5.6L opens up some interesting photographic possibilities

Di na ako nakapagantay. Bumili na lang ako sa HK ng 7D Mark II sa halagang 75K. Yung kwento sa akin 82k daw dito. Mahal naman :(

But wasn't the original 7D released at around the same price?  And that 82k price, that's the one with the 3-year local canon warranty, right?

The DRTV review was impressive, it's amazing that you can now get D4s and 1Dx fps+AF at a relatively more affordable price

Just shot our Company Year End Party... was able to shoot 4400+ shots before I swapped battery (ok it was low, but it didn't die... I just decided to swap it out at the same time with my third CF swap... event took 5200+ shots in total...which is pretty darn impressive.  That AI Servo + Highspeed shutter is AMAZING.

looks like the only thing missing is a touch screen (para mas madali ang change focus sa video) at wifi (but a cheap workaround would be an eyefi card).
