I would happily spend 2800 USD for full-frame compact camera but the fixed 35mm prime lens is the deal breaker for me. Fixed lens will surely limit the versatility of the camera.

IMHO considering the price tag, they should include the external viewfinder!

wow featured na agad sa pipho home. I'm sure merong mga mag lean dito over the upcoming fuji x-e1. yeah medyo deal breaker ang fixed lens nya. siguro sabi ng marketing department ilabas muna with fixed tapos next year na yung with interchangeable lenses para maximum profit hahaha. ang laki lang ng lens sana medyo pancake ang dating para ultimate street shooting. sana rin ginawa na nilang 1.4 aperture ng lens tutal medyo malaki na rin :)

LOL.  ;D  I'm thinking that Sony has not yet completely tamed the full-frame compact technology hence the inability incorporate interchangeable lens. But that's just me guess..  :P

Such a waste to purchase an ultra expensive camera lacking the versatility of NEX series.  :-\

A built-in VF would have been sweeter.  At an extra $400/600 for the external EVF/OVF, that's pushing you well above 3 grand.

But otherwise, aside from wishing for a built-in EVF, the only thing I would have wanted for the price is weather sealing.

The lack of interchangeable lenses isn't a biggie for me, since 35mm is, for me, probably the most versatile FL.  (Though I would actually want a 28mm or 31mm lens, hehe)

Of course, it's likely that Sony will go the way of Fuji and the X100 and X system, and we'll probably have an FF NEX in the next 24 months.

But really, I rarely suffer GAS.  And I rarely feel the need to be an early adopter, but this RX1 is really really making me drool.  Assuming IQ and all the bells and whistles live up to the price tag, this is really a street shooters dream camera.

This is not a poor man's P@S. I will be wishing and gassing for this but I will just do a window shopping. It is not as expensive as the leica but still way beyond my pocket will allow.
I am excited though because this might trigger other manufactures to innovate and will eventually usher the era of cheap "FF" camera system. ...then the poor man does not have to pay twice this time... ;)

Competition is the mother of innovation! The camera manufacturers are starting to make things interesting to get that market share.

With the smartphones (Iphone5, SGS3, Nokia Pureview) steadily having better and better cameras, the Point&Shoot cameras that we know today will eventually die...

the mid-range will be ruled by M4/3 and full frame compacts on the higher end

then we will still have DSLRS, but the battle in this segment will already be in the FF with the pixel density approaching the Medium format... APS-C DSLRS will become a collateral damage between the battle of smartphones and M4/3...

Me thinks the P&S will improve even more based on the new Smart phones.  The RX100 is a clear example the competition will need to better.

While i read somewhere that Micro Four Thirds are a dead end which i tend to believe because of cost.

Who knows what the future brings?  Just as long as the consumers are the winner with bigger sensors and better lenses in smaller packages.  So far that has been the trend anyway.

Also agree with the others.  An EVF would have been great.  As well as being an interchangeable lens system camera would make this great competition for the Fuji Xpro1 and the Leica M systems.  Sayang Sony!

Saw the pics from Steve Huff.  Does look very promising and sounds like a Fun Camera.  It's like a beefed up X100 with FF sensor.
