Quirino: Caves and Sandstone Rock Formations
« on: August 30, 2012, 12:55:14 AM »

Sharing some sidetrip images (out takes) from a recent trip/ outreach (joined Trails to Empower Kids or T.R.E.K.) in Quirino province last August 25-27.

Quirino is land-locked province located at the southeaster tip of the Isabela and west of Aurora province.

Formerly under the jurisdiction of Nueva Viscaya, the corn-producing Quirino province are abundant with waterfalls, caves and natural rock formations (river stacks) being at the heart of an old and large river system - the Cagayan River.

Cave #1 of Aglipay Caves and Parks
Aglipay, Quirino

Aglipay Cave Complex is comprised of over 37 interlinked underground chambers, of which only 8 chambers have been explored, plus camping facilities and modern accommodations. Being easily accessible, the caves are popular among tourists in the region.

Cave #1 features a large and high ceiling chambers with central dome as a focal point. Here's the cave's opening.

Bimmapor (means ship in Ilocano) is a famous landmark at Nagtipunan, Madela, Quirino. Unmistakably shaped like a sunken ship. This is the only known sandstone rock formation in the country that is found on a river bed (Cagayan River).

I joined Trails To Empower Kids outreach project to an Ilongot Tribe in Madela town over the 3-day weekend holiday. Here's the school that we went to that served as our campsite for a two-day sortie.
