Canon Announced New Features in EOS 7D's 2.0.x Firmware
« on: June 29, 2012, 02:49:39 PM »

Canon just teased its customers that its 2 year old EOS 7D will have new features with its upcoming firmware 2.0.x. The firmware will enable the camera to shoot an additional 10 frames bursts to its existing 15 burst continous shooting in RAW making it now a speedy 25 RAW burst camera. Of course JPEG burst capacity will also be increased from 126 to 130 Large JPEG Fine, it also promises to have an internal editing functions such as rating, in-camera resizing, in-camera RAW processing and some minor tweaks. The Auto ISO feature will also receive a maximum limit upgrade from 3200 to 6400. If you have two Canon bodies you probably encountered a messed-up files because of duplicate IMG prefix names, this firmware solves that by having customization with the filename in the camera menu.

Unfortunately 7D owners will have to wait for a month for Canon to release the firmware.  We also didn’t see if Canon addresses the dropped 8fps issue that most low-light sports shooters encounter. Here’s a feature vs feature comparison chart by Canon U.S.A. Nevertheless, on paper the firmware update is a very welcome gesture to make its current owners love their camera more. We will surely inform you once this update is up.
