How do you feel about Canon joining mirrorless race?
« on: May 12, 2012, 08:52:03 PM »
With Canon G1X out in the wild already, and the thought of Canon doing mirrorless cameras was unthinkable less than a year ago. How do you feel about the rumors about Canon coming out with mirrorless cameras?

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/05/canon-mirrorless-sooner-than-expected-cr1/

What does this mean for SLR users (especially Canon fans)? Is the EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) / CSC (Compact Sysytem Camera) / iLC (Interchangeable Lens Camera) / Mirroless market proving to a market share-grabber prompting Canon to join in?
As a Canon user, I may be inclined to change system (or adapt a 2nd system) if it means being able to take advantage of same-brand  lens and accessories that I could use on the mirrorless as well as my DSLR (seems less threatening on the investment). But since it's still a rumor, that's a big IF. ;D

as a consumer, i don't care.

as a photographer, i don't care.

if i'm Canon company, to get more profit, having a new line of camera is good for business.

I think Canon are battling on two fronts...the resolution race in terms of their main rival, and the other on market base on amateur & hobbyist based on compact interchangeable lenses.

I also think this is true... adapt or die. It's a tough battle though and I hope they can still come out with excellent cameras that can credibly compete on both fronts.

Full frame? That's certainly one factor that Canon might have over the other companies.

Dati kasi I was looking for a very small cam that can use legacy lenses. Lumabas yung V1/J1 and I was disappointed in the sensor size and the FT1 adapter was late to arrive so i switched with MFT. Ok sakin yung small lenses nila (MFT) though I can still use legacy lenses but only MF mas nagclick sakin yung native mft lenses and the availability. Ngayon parang ayaw ko na rin ng legacy lenses gaano kasi malimit mawawalan ng AF at mabigat sila compared to MFT counterparts. This I see is where MFT really shines the availability of compact light native lenses. Yan ang nagpapaswitch talaga ng tao. Kung papaano yan dedeskartehan ni Canon, di pa talaga natin alam again rumors pero I do hope before the go releasing new bodies left and right they should invest first in lens creation for this to work IMHO. Let's wait and see :)

I feel bad if they are going to do it like Nikon (Nikon 1 v1/j1) or Pentax(Q).I feel great if they will use APS-C sensor like the NEX and the Fuji Xpro1.I will be jumping up and down with joy if they will go for a killer full frame MIC. :D :D

im not a canon user, kaso I find the design to be really good.

too good to be true yung projection/design. Even the author doubts that canon will go to his direction.

Sana lang mas makita ng canon yung future ng mirrorless camera and that they don't need to cripple it (like the 1 system ng Nikon) just to avoid cannibalizing their DSLR line up.

imho, need talaga mag evolve or mag try ng bagong product line. The success depends on the consumer. What if the technology tends to go to mirror-less path? We won't know unless canon give it a try...

Canon might be a bit pre-occupied with the higher profit margin Cinema EOS to enter the mirrorless race...    ;D

I don't mind them joining the mirrorless market. more options for us.

if they can manage to fit a sensor with current full frame quality to a small body and make fantastic compact lenses then that would be awesome. (Though there are rumors that they are planning for an entry-level FF DSLR). Imagine if they can do that on a small camera, then what would that mean on bigger camera sensors? Some say that mirrorless is the future and maybe Canon agrees, or they just want to have a product at every camera level maximizing their profits :P

I would be happy if they'll join the ILC world but if they'll make a new lens mount, I'll be so disappointed and that's the most ridiculous decision that Canon will make. I hope it's EF compatible if they will make a new lens mount. :D

Key to the advantage of m43s is they are not hampered by the need for backward compatibility with their lens lineups. If you recall m43 makers

Wouldn't making a mirrorless Canon camera with a compatibility with their existing lens lineup keep loyal Canon users even more loyal from profit point of view? Well at least I hope they will. Eyes crossed.

Really looking forward to a Canon mirrorless system. Although I was extremely disappointed sa Nikon mirrorless. Baka lang this made Canon think twice about offering a mirrorless system. Anyway looks ok naman sila with their current lineup. And parang nagcoconcentrate sila on offering a video-focused lineup.

O yeah..... they should keep into the EF-S and EF lens ..... this will definitely boost their sale of lens .... and keep inventory simple.

But if they will go to the compactness route ..... i think EF lenses will be too big.

Mirrorless FF camera :D i am dreaming .....

The more the merrier. Mas ok me some form of "battle" in the market para mas magstrive yung mga companies to make even better items :) Pihado magigising na yung m4/3 kasi malapit na at their doorstep yan and they should make their lineup more enticing. Better for us consumers diba :) Sana lumabas na yung mga fast zoom lenses, third parties are welcome as well :)

competition brings down prices for the consumer, so that's always positive. as for the camera itself? not very inspired.
