then the company that we were working sold our system for millions of dollars to different clients abroad.  ni 1% siguro nun kinita nila, malaki pa din sa binayad sa'min.

I agree, but this is why photographers, or programmers, should know what they are worth. If your work is worth millions, maybe you can start negotiating for a higher price for your works.

A photographic portrait should not only capture a person's physical likeness, but also a touch of his/her personality.

I've done some writing for this company before, but never contributed pictures.
Yup, this whole thing sounds just like them.
They may never really intend to offend anyone, but they often do.

Once in a while, something happens that reminds photographers about the need to band together for their common good. I think Louie's call (see title of this thread) called the attention of many photographers, and many responded. There was an interesting exchange, with some calling for action against publishers, some asking for caution before doing anything drastic, others reminding photographers to think about their rights, and other such appeals.

After a lot of hoopla, we were told that publishers were now negotiating with photographers. Hurray for the photographers!

But up to now, months after this thread was started, the outcome of the negotiation between the photographer(s) and the publisher on how the contract between them should be worded, has not been shared with the readers of this forum.

I feel like I watched and participated in an interactive suspense movie, but was denied to know how it ended.

I wonder what happened?

Dear Louie,

Greetings!

I only joined this group today. I'm also an editorial photographer. I join you in this call to stand up to our rights.

I just finished another book with Neil Oshima on Batanes (for UNESCO). I did not agree with some of the items on the contract. They had to redo it.

More power, Louie!

Wish you all the best!

Photography is both craft and discipline. It has very little to do with the things you see, but has everything to do with the way you see them.

This is defintely an unfair contract for all photographers.  DO NOT GIVE THEM THE SATISFACTION.  DO NOT SIGN!

I think we should also consult a lawyer so we can draft a contract that is fair to both photographers and publishing companies. This contract can serve as template for all editorial photographers who would like a contract that protect their rights.

So, instead of waiting for publishers to give us a contract to sign before we can work for them, WE can give them a contract to sign before they can use our photographs. Of course, in the same way that we want them to respect our rights, we should also respect theirs. I believe that there is a win-win way to resolve our differences.

I guess this is one way for us to let these publishers know that they couldn't just take advantage of photographers. DO NOT SIGN
