I tested this when I got my 70-200 2.8 at JT. All I can say is WOW.

Very light for a 2.8 lens and great sharp pictures w/ lovely bokeh can be achieved.

Great value.

the sigma 70-200mm is sharper Ryan not by much though :)  The thing that got me to purchase this was the size.  I wouldnt mind carrying it all day compared to the weight of a Nikor 80-200mm.

Alan, yes the 70-200 isn't much sharper than the 50-150 but I got the 70-200 for the additional range  ;D yet I need a monopod  :-\

I think the 50-150 is almost the weight of the Sigma 28-70 2.8 right? Its really manageable.

Got any great deals there in Japan? Any D300 yet? Hehehe

great deals in Japan bro,  Ill post it on dpp so you guys will have an idea where to buy really cheap lenses. The d3 is still not out. I checked out yodobashi.  The sigma 18-200mm os for nikon is out roughly around 60 plus yen.  I also saw the elusive sigma 70mm macro wc I really like and its around 19k only as compared to our local stores wc is around 23-24k.   The thing is here in japan some of the stores dont let you test the lenses probably because they always get the good quality lens since its made in  Japan.  :)  I saw a used lens like yours and it  was around 50 plus yen only.  Mura talaga ang 2nd hand lenses except for the legendary glasses like the trinities wc is still very expensive. The nikors really hold their value so if u want good investment of course nikor pa din.  The tarmons are great too.  I was able to try a handful like the 18-250mm,, 28-75mm and 17-50mm.  All of them are great.  Wahts nice abt photography is w. the variety of lenses out there it all boil down to the shooter!!  Some of the third party lenses iq is not far from the the very expensive lenses.  Moreso in the hands of a good photographer.

I think you can add a little bit more and get the 70-200 2.8.

sir:
2.8 or 1.8 using the indoor court lighting... well, you could get sharp ones, but mostly kung medyo momentarily static yung subject.  if you get a clear face and blurry hands that would somewhat be like panning...
haay!... DREAM SCENARIO: since most official sports matches forbid direct onboard flash photography, line the entire roof with several (marami) diffused  strobe heads na lahat naka pocket wizard. astig, tapos ikaw lang may clean shots.

as you can see, the price difference is really significant between the 50-150 and the 70-200 2.8.  the price, weight and IQ(subjective) makes the 50-150 2.8 a great lens choice for those needing the extra range of a constant 2.8 lens without breaking the bank or their arm.   ;)
