Good camera bag that can be use as everyday backpack..
« on: July 27, 2014, 03:23:41 AM »
Hello guys. I'm looking for a cheap and reliable backpack. I'm not photographer by profession so I'm not travelling with my camera gear all the time.

All suggestions are welcome..

Thanks! :)

hello there, mikel!

if you are looking for a backpack that can sometimes fit your gear and sometimes use it as an everyday backpack, lowepro and benro has a wide range of selections.

for example, lowepro fastpack has a compartment for some camera gear and if you remove the dividers, you can place other personal items instead. it also has a top zipper compartment, and a laptop side storage that could fit i think at most a 15inch laptop.

another would be lowepro flipside 300 and the bigger one which is the 400. the beauty of the flipside series is that the main zipper is at the back so your personal stuff is more secure. the 400 has a small compartment in front. again, all you need to transform is to remove the dividers.

flipside 300

flipside 400

however, if you are just looking for a backpack wherein it will not be used to place your camera gear, hawk bags are quite ok. the only thing i don't like about hawk bags is that they seem to have installed cheap velcro materials.

in my opinion, you are on the right track in buying a backpack that can be used for everyday use, and when doing some photo shoots, rather than buying 2 backpacks.

also, it would help if you could mention the general contents you are planning on putting in your backpack like a surfboard, coffee machine, cellphone, printers, etc  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for inputs mga sir... :) Btw, I'm looking for a bag big enough to carry atleast a body w/ kit lens + additional lens(as big as 70-300 L lens), and 14" laptop and I guess kasya nman na yun sa mga na-suggest mo sir Cheese, with still some space left enough for bread toaster :p hehehe..., but I'm quite afraid those brands are bit pricey.  Sir Pitbull, I'll consider na lang din your suggestion. :) Tignan ko na lang yung mga na-suggest nyo pag nakadaan ako sa sm dept. store or sa cyberzone...

Thanks guys!! :D :D :D

I got a 2nd hand Lowepro Fastpack 250 here in PiPho at only 2,500. Still fresh when I got it, and Im still using it now. :) The FP250 is nice, but I kind of like the slightly FP350 for the locking strap on the chest area. You might want to consider the difference.

However, what I am not really fond of is putting a laptop in the laptop compartment anymore. My laptop's LCD now has a defect (vertical line), coz maybe the laptop gets squished between myself and my stuff. I dont know about the Benro counterparts if they would have the same problem. I just like the sleeker look of the Lowepro than the industrial look of the Benro backpacks.

But overall, I like the backpack style coz I can mix clothes and gear in it when I have overnight trips in nearby provinces.

i agree with pitbull...hawk or any durable bag of your choice then you can buy padded inserts (available locally) just like what you see inside original camera bags. either small or medium para naman may choice ka kung mas madami camera equipment or mas marami personal effects...just my 2 cents

There is also someone else that I saw in some Facebook group (photomarket? cameramarket?) that customizes these padded inserts, depending on your specifications/needs.

dati i always use my lowepro fastpack 100. its "slim" profile really suits me as i dont want to carry a "school" look backpack..

in those times, i use it for malling, MTB ride, hiking

now, im using clik elite compact sport...still "slim" on its side, kinda near similar size as my northface megamouth...

but with better features vs lowepro fastpack:

-middle partition can be unzipped to accomodate longer lenses
-provision to carry a tripod
-provision to accomodate tablets/hydration pack
-waist belt, can be folded, can act as a lumbar support
-better built quality, colorway looks more "fashionable"

so for all around, everyday pack...that doesnt make your back look like a school boy or an infantry soldier...this does for me

it can accomodate both GF5 and G6 on the lower section..or either my D3s or A77II with a medium zoom attached.

tapos yung mga aniks aniks on the top compartment...tablet or kung laptop, my sony vaion pz11[on the backside], medicine pouch/1st aid, torch/personal alarm, toiletries, raincover, reusable shopping bag, coin purse, water bottle, face towel.

partition can be unzipped if you want one big storage

downside?

medyo mahal...but you get what you pay for
