Back focus issues - 70-200mm VR II - How long to fix?
« on: May 25, 2013, 09:07:15 PM »
Guys,

I confirmed with a friend's Spyder LensCal that my 70-200mm is back-focusing. Wasn't really an issue shooting events and weddings/celebrations - but now that I'm trying out a bit of indoor sports shooting --- nakaka frustrate na.  I initially thought it was a matter of AF-S/AF-C settings - but I sorted that, and tried out the 70-200mm again today.

Ganun pa rin: for some tracking shots, even with the red reticle/focus point on the athlete (panning) - there will be times that the lens chooses to lock on the background (often brighter or more contrasty).

I also use a fast, long prime - and it does not have the same issues.

Baka the sports shooters out there can offer some suggestions? Baka naman it really is a matter of technique.

I also wanted to have it 'calibrated' - whatever that means.  Perhaps someone has done it before with CDSC or overseas?  Any idea how much and how long?

I recall for Sigma, JT recommends that I send in the body with the lens as well.

Thanks in advance!

Edwin

Have you tried calibrating via the AF Fine Tune feature of your camera?

Hi Larry,

Yes I did --  AF Fine Tune 'on', value to  '+2', default at Zero.  Might just bring it with the Body to MK per your advise.  Sana nga 3 days lang, like you're experience.

Thanks
