Assignment Ilaya Fault Line in Bohol

It started with an idea by the Commander… John… why don’t you cover the remote village on top of the hill near Inabanga… the helicopter will drop you off on the first sortie and will pick you up on the third sortie… Good Idea… But Sir… can I request instead of the third sortie… can I get pick up on the second sortie… in case the last might be aborted. Agreed.
So I prepared my gear and took off with the Huey crew… not knowing where the place is… after 40 minutes of flying there was a smoke… a signal made by the soldiers armed with M16… the Huey landed … unload the relief goods and I get off… I check on my watch… 40 minutes flying time x 2 would give me one hour and half before the second sortie… I met the Barangay Kaptain Ernesto Miñagas . He describe the situation. I got my bearing, a woman took time to show me around the landing site… then a young man with the motorcycle saw me walking and offer to take me to the fault area… I did my shoot, the people were friendly… I saw the devastating effect of the earthquake… the basketball court has been cut in half. Houses collapse … the people were saving some of the wood and moving away from the river… my motorcycle driver/guide Digoy is 24 years old and has a six months old baby… they survived the quake… we hike to the fault line… and one hour and ten minutes later… we started to go back to the pick up site… I gave some money to Digoy for his family. later the sound of the helicopter become louder… great… the thought that race into my mind… I wont be stranded… because its going to be a LOOOOONG hike to wherever that place…. For an hour… I learned a lot…

I went to a remote village in the mountain...drop off by a Huey helicopter, the pilot gave me just one hour to shoot before he would came back to deliver another round of relief goods... I dont know where I am but I knew I have to get some shots of the place... a major Fault line that cut across the village...

My best shot.. there were a group of children playing on the fallen tree branch... I saw these children looking up to the sky as the helicopter bringing the relief goods coming to a landing... I had a few seconds to shoot as I race to the landing site so they can pick me up too.

I took a risk of being stranded in this remote village... with this image I got... I think its worth the risk..
