Unlike body and lenses, tripod is one accessory that when chosen intelligently, you will never have to replace it in your lifetime.

I suggest that you get the best tripod that your budget can afford. Do this and save on upgrade cost.

+1 !  Sadly, I learned that the hard way, going through a cheapo Slik with a plastic video pan head in the early 80's, then an overly complicated Cullman in the  90's, then a Manfrotto monopod before getting a Benro knock off of a Gitzo 2 series explorer.  Should have just saved more.

There are also carbon-fiber tripods with flip locks. I actually own one (Manfrotto). I also own a Benro carbon-fiber tripod with twist locks. In my experience, the tripod with twist locks is quicker to deploy since I could hold all of each leg's twist locks with one hand and unlock them simultaneously with just a flick of the wrist.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't realize the CF Manfrottos had flip locks, too. I guess the deployment speed is a matter of technique and practice then.

I use the same method to deploy the legs of a CF Gitzo monopod with twist locks, and have to pull the legs out, test it to see if it's at my eye level, adjust then lock. The Aluminum legs, in contrast,  just fall as I flip the locks open. Then I adjust length and lock again.

Cheers!
