Lexar 32Gig Died on me! HELP!
« on: February 26, 2012, 09:51:46 PM »
Just came back from an out of town trip,
took shoots right before i got home, in the middle of the shoot, all of a sudden my sdhc,
nervous and expecting the worse, got home and tried the card on my PC....

WhaLa!!!! Wala n memcard, Windows cant see the card,
tried it on my laptop, YES, the card registers, but it says "cant read, format it now?"

am now trying recovery programs as of the moment;
to those of you who went throug my predicament....

Any pointers???  :-[

In my experience with lost files, i proceeded with the formatting to erase everything. But these things (Storage devices), the data is still imprinted in the memory just waiting to be replaced. so as long as you havent saved anything yet after the format, you can still use data recovery tools to retrieve your files. I use RecoverMyFiles software to do that.

+1 @ Tacky

additional note: use quick format on windows as this is equivalent to just removing the "table of contents" but not the actual pages of a book.

With the card in the camera, can you still view the images, meaning can you still review all the images via the cams LCD?

If yes, then connect a USB cable to your cam and download the images using the cam as your device. The computer should recognize your cam without any problem and will communicare with the cam to off load the images in the camera.

After downloading, format the sd card in the camera to prevent future problems (often times this really work) rather than formatting in the computer.

Good luck!

am on windows 7 ultimate sir.

i tried formatting awhile ago,

USING WINDOS 7;
it registered as 1gig, instead of its original 32gig form,
gave it a GO!!!!
after some time, and watching the status bar move,
"WINDOWS cannot complete formatting, make sure that media is inserted or not corrupted"
 ???

Now I tried formatting on the camera,
ordinary and deep format, same result,
hang lang ako s "BUSY"

left it for 1 hour, baka sakali lang, still a negativ.

I wish it could be that easy  :'(
nope, i cant view the images anymore,
message on LCD "please re-insert card or format"

just sent an email to LEXAR Support, maybe they have some sort of recovery software available for this kind of situation, and inquired about their warranties, just bought the card last Janauary 2012 hope they cover or replace the card (worse case scenario).  :'(

are you using a card reader to format your card? what is your latest windows 7 update?

Do also take note that your card reader should be SDHC compliant. Also I think windows 7 had a bug before involving 32gig memory cards. you can try using a windows xp machine to just check if its readable.
Think out of the box.

My sentiments exactly, emailed Lexar Inc about what happened, they offered to replace the product after some tests they want to conduct on the card, turn around time for that is about 14 to 20 working days, so guess ill be getting their replacement in a month or two..... Hayz, guess not everything expensive are the best, am now using the free Trancend 4gig class 10 that came with my dslr body, buti p to, medyo mabagal pero mtibay, eto muna till dumating Sandisk extreme pro i ordered, sana d publicity lang performance....

Sadly, hardware failure na talaga yan. Normal recovery options won't work anymore. I'm sorry about the lost files but at least they'll be replacing the card. And you can sleep better having a Sandisk card in your camera. :)
