Jun,

Tama ka, AF fine tuning should be done with your own lens so since wala kang iniwan, they'll use their own reference lens, most probably the 50mm when they do the final checks.

Sige, balitaan mo kami ano ginawa nila. It will help also other D800 owners kasi we can compare what other service centers are doing.

Regarding paano magtanong: Wait ka lang until you get the service sheet. You can then call the service center and ask for clarification. Gaya rin ng calling a car dealership after the repair. The good ones, like the Ray Catena Benz/Porsche dealer sa Jersey eh they call you directly pa and explain verbally everything they did.

Bro, you paid a lot of money for the cam. Don't hesitate to ask for verbal clarification after you get the camera back and use the service sheet as a reference.

from a D800 forum
"July 3d submitted pictures to Nikon after 8 days got respond send it to us. Got it back yesterday August 13. Run af test left most point was perfect center and right were extremely out of focus at f1.8 fine tune at + 20 better but not enough. At f2.8 all points sharp. Looks like they test it at f2.8. F1.8 unusable now spend about 30 min on a phone with manager, waiting for prepaid shipping label sending it back for second attempt and hope they fix it this time "

It is past 10 days and ang nakalagay pa rin sa update site nila is still "in Shop". I was told 7-10 days lang,,,, mukhang nahihirapan sila ah!

Patience is virtue.

finally got my unit this morning. Pag open ko pa lang I was disappointed, mukhang pati ata service center nabubulok na rin. Well got my cam back na wala ang front cap. Binalot/Seal lang ng plastic wrap. Makikita mo ang sensor since wala ang cap. In the first place left focus issue and dirty sensor yung complaint ko dito. I already called Nikon about this and they will get in touch as soon as natawagan na nila ang melville office. For now don't have my tripod para ma test. Might try the handheld  test as suggested by Thor. Nakakawalang gana lang talaga. Any Idea where I could possibly call to file a complaint.

Eto yung nakasulat sa service sheet . Share ko lang sa inyo.

Service repair Rank B1
Repair SC 201759
ADJ AUTO FOCUS OPERATION
CKD COMMUNICATION
CLN CCD
GENERAL CHECK&CLEAN

Thats all folks.

Jun,

Repair B1 means gaano ka-complicated yung repair and it means sumampa sa bench yung camera mo or "bench-time was needed for repair work". May B2 din pero that's lower or mas madali ang bench time.

Kasama sa B1: adjust focus after bench time, clean sensor, and check communication.

Yung "SC 201759" is an internal code ng mga ginawa nila. My guess is they recycle the coding system (same code pero specific sa D800 yung steps or repair workflow).

Question:

Did you note ano shutter count mo before sending the unit in? Ano na shutter count niya ngayon? Ilang shots pinitik nila for repair and testing?

I'm glad that your camera finally came in Jun although the technician failed to return your camera cap. I sent mine to El Segundo, CA since I am on the west coast. I did not include the body cap and I just used a seran wrap as noted on their instruction.

They just received mine so hopefully they'll be able to make it better. It takes around 10 days before they complete the job. Most of the work that El Segundo were pretty good before. They've worked on some of my lenses, and camera bodies and they returned it in new condition.

At Jun - while my camera as at the Nikon service center, I sent them the link that Thor shared with us. The Nikon rep then sent it to the service center as an additional reference. Hopefully it will improve their success rate.

I just checked my order number and the service center entered "B2" which means moderate repair: major parts replaced. Different from what Melville did with your camera.

B1 means moderate repair: minor parts replaced.

Of course, everything is still under warranty which is no cost to us except for the shipping.

Unfortunately mangilan ngilan din yung pinitik pitik ko kahapon kaya di ko na ma determine kung ilang shutter count ang ginawa nila to fix my cam. Hope I will have the time to test the cam today. Came across some post na nag rereklamo yung ibang users kasi they need to pay for the repair, might be di nila napadala ang receipt. So far naman wala akong binayaran sa repairs kahit sa shipping nila pabalik sa akin which was thru UPS.

If I were you Jun, just hold on with your cam until Nikon comes up with a better solution or their success rate improves within the warranty period.

If the owners did not send a copy of their receipt, they will be charged unless there are other issues such as evidence of the camera being dropped or damage due to impact.

hopefully they fixed this already wala pa time to test the cam. If not I will just wait till crystal clear na ang fix nila, rather than sending it kaagad sa kanila.

The first time I sent an email regarding left focus issues ang sagot sa akin is wala pang fix. The recent one I sent regarding the same problem, they asked mo send the camera to Nikon na. Now I know why because of this from nikon rumour.
,,,"Nikon is close to sending a repair advisory about the D800 left focusing issue. It is a quick fix in the repair center but they are monitoring the amount of cases reported through the European Support Office. Well worth contacting Nikon if your camera has this problem. There have been plenty of reports already sent to the support center, but they have to hit a certain percentage of the total bodies produced in order for Nikon to announce a repair advisory."

I don't think Nikon will release a service advisory on this issue. I'm doing camera and lens repair as a hobby and I have open up almost all the DSLRs and lenses. I have seen a lot of screw-ups from camera and lens makers but neither one announced a recall or service advisory. The only time they will announce a recall is when the fault has something to do with safety or you can't totally use the product.
