This is an image how focal length affects the perspective.

from wikipedia

There's no right or wrong on what lens to use for landscape. Other prefer a wider angle lens and other may not. What might work for you might not work for others. The lens is a tool which have different characteristic that produce different effects, the important thing is using those tools to capture the image you want.

Different view between the 2 lenses. What if it had a filter size same as the 17-40L?  :)

TS, If you are asking picture quality, both 5dm2 and 7d can give you great picture quality, remember producing great landscape picture are not confine to what model  u are using, it is your skill and knowledge that will give you great picture. :)

My vote also goes to the 16-35II on the 5D II.  Both are fantastic lenses by the way.

I still have my 10-22 here but I hardly use it anymore.  The 16-35II also controls distortion better and is a better lens overall for IQ.

Btw, the 17-40 might be the staple lens for most full frame shooters since it's cheaper and easier to get filters for it but the 16-35II much better than the 17-40 especially in the corners.
