What makes me want to get a MFT camera is the thought that during low light, you can use primes wide open and still get a wider DOF.. And with IBIS like something in the OM-D, it seems it would be totally great for events unlike using DSLRs where you may have better ISO performance but when you use lenses wide open, you'll have a difficult time making things in focus.

I'm not sure if micoraven was referring to me or coffeebug in his post but if he meant me, then here's my reply.

I've also used Tynn's OMD and I like so much that i'm actually getting one next week. That being said, my opinion regarding the topic at hand is still very much the same. I may as well re-write what I posted above verbatim ;D

You're right Glenn, i'm nowhere near giving up my D3s for anything in the market right now. Picking up the D3s right after spending some time with any of the m4/3 cameras elicits a warm feeling from deep within and just makes me say out loud "Oh yeah, baby! I'm home. Now i'm ready to really shoot!"

Already did. . . when I stopped my events "sideline" business, I found myself being burdened by carrying DSLR kit to family events and vacations . . . And I've owned DSLRs since my very first Canon D30 (all 3.1 megapixels of it, imagine that!).

Tried out an LX3 first, and found that I was shooting more with it than my D5000 + 17-50 2.8 combo.  Took the plunge with a GF1 + 20mm 1.7 combo, and have not looked back since.  I understood the limitations of M43s then, but since I was not doing any events/sports anymore, then I could live with compromise of the smaller body and more limited functionality of a M43s camera.

That being said, I just got an OM-D and this camera is amazing. If you own an APS-C sensor camera, then the OMD is a better alternative, IMHO.  If you're a pro, then the big boys from Nikon/Canon are still your best bet. But for everyone else . . . :-)

Next in my wish list is that 25mm 1.4 PanaLeica lens and I'm good to go.

I did what is exactly the title of this thread. DUMPED my Nikon D700 and all FX Lenses including the trinity of zooms! After a year, here I am settling back to a Nikon D800 and just the 24-70 2.8 whislt rebuilding my lens arsenal. Not to take anything from anyone but based on my experience, I've had several oohs and ahhs using DSLR compared to the micro 4/3rds. Had the GF1, GF2, X100, OLY Pen too

That is just plain craziness! Were you swayed by the hyped or from forum users? The initial release of a camera will give you just that but after a while most people will get tired of it and will sit on the bag for a while until a new product is released. There are certain group of people that will prefer the m4/3 but like everything else, it is not for everybody.

Dumping your f2.8 zooms and then re-purchase them again is just a horrible decision IMO. I've tried the Nikon pro zooms and there is no way that I'm giving those up and will not compromise them with any lighter m 4/3 zoom lens.

The thread's title is plain and simple, it's asking a question if "YOU" will dump your DSLR for a four thirds. Some will, some will not and some already did. To each his own ika nga, so I think it's best "AS A GENTLEMAN" not to meddle with other's decision or opinion... After all, if the $hit hits the fan, it's not you who's going to take cover. Pera at gamit nila yan, hayaan natin sila kung saan sila masaya.

Just my humble opinion. :)

i just did! not a pro, not earning from photography, only for family events and pasyal photos. m4/3 is more than enough for me. plus the bulk and the size of a DSLR is already taking its toll (sign of aging ;D)

but DSLR is still the best for pro use :)

if my DSLR is a D3100, D5100 (or those without motors, and Auto-FP) i would definitely dump them for a micro 4/3rds, GF2/GF3, I just dumped my Nikon D60 for an LX5 (not even a m4/3) and I never missed anything, plus i got auto-FP or high speed flash synch up to 1/4000, even off-cam.
but if my DSLR is at least a D90, D7000, or a full frame DSLR, I would stick with the DSLR, and get a m4/3 as a travel/everyday cam.

a good read from a pro photog who went to m4/3. i really think its all about how you adapt on the gear/system. especially nowadays since m4/3 is catching up with new lens releases since getting a system really depends on the availability of the lens.

mFT cameras are slowly evolving like the Oly OMD... marami ng nag switch...
hmmm parang di ko pa bitawan ang DSLR for now... pero i want to consider getting mFT camera as backup then decide later if i really want to sell off my all my DSLR gears for this lighter setup...

would probably be great as a second system for everyday use. trading in an entire system to go M4/3s is a tall order and i wouldn't be ready to go that route.

i suppose if being ultra-portable and lightweight is top priority, then this is a good option. but camera systems will never stop evolving. If your current system works for you now, why change it? Shoot with what you have unless your system is preventing you from taking it up another notch.

Both have their pros and cons. For paid work, I still use my Nikon FX/DX system. I find DSLR's ovf and focus tracking better than MFT's evf and continuous auto focus. For casual shoots like outing or family events, i use my Olympus epl2 since the image quality is more than enough. It's good to have both. Just choose which is the right tool for a specific shoot. :)

Dumped my Canon 450D and kept my Lumix LX5(similar naman to M43's).

Now planning to build lens arsenel for Nikons.

My say about this is Keep both if you can para walang sisihan.

i have been looking into dumping my Nikon DSLR system for a much lighter m4/3 system. I'm going to wait 'til the technology matures. In the mean time, It's still DSLR for me, though switching to Pentax from the Dark Side.

Of course, not. I'll keep my current body, Nikon d90. And upgrade hopefully this year to a Nikon d7000. :)

i am on schedule to shift  already by next month to mf3, the main reason is the weight. i just realized lately that my inclination is with street photo so the lighter the gear is, the better.
