if you want to protect your investment from any possible "mishaps" using a 3rd party grip (wala akong maisip na mishap, maximum pessimism lang. :p), then go for canon.

personally, i just use a phottix grip for my camera. (its just a hand-me-down so i dont want to spend much for it) yung natipid ko na ~2.5k, mapupunta pa sa ipon para sa possible new lens.  ;D
lenses and cameras are worthless if not for the photographer's skill.

i'm using a third party grp although walang grip ang d3000 talaga, so far so good, i'm even using a rare type that has the battery built in to it, i get to shoot at least 1500 shots a charge, plus the 400 or more using the regular battery :) i'm saving up to upgrade to a d7000 by dec. and i''ve seen the price on the original grips from nikon and, egad it costs nearly 13k :O oh well, if i've got the budget :)

A battery grip is not really an immediate need for a photographer. Unless katulad nung sa isang model ng nikon na to make the fps faster you need a battery grip. Kaya save up nalang for an original battery grip it will go a long way

i also use phottix battery grip on my d90. so far no problems and quite happy with it. :)

personally before buying, i compared it with nikon and couldn't see the big difference to pay almost double. but that's just my personal opinion. siguro kasi di ganun ka-important sakin battery grip. for occasional use lang.

I've been using a Phottix batt grip on my d3000 for half a year now. Minsan may topak lang sa vertical shutter pero it happens rarely and is pretty tolerable.
