Tamron, Sigma or Canon
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:22:54 PM »
Help po mga masters,

I plan to buy 18-200mm lens for Canon 450d. Which of these three brands should I buy, let's say i have a 35k budget?

Thanks in advance.

18-200, why sir pang all around/walk around lens niyo po ba?
pasok na ang budget niyo for canon ;)
si sigma may bagong labas 50-150, ayun nga lang 50mm na zoom out at bitin ng 50mm sa zoom in  :P

Try considering Sigma 18-200 or the newest 18-250 DC OS. more cheaper than the canon model plus i like the body design than canon because it looks more solid. in my opinion  ;D

Reason why i'd stay away from do it all lenses is IQ, CA, distortion, etc... eventually maghahanap ka rin ng iba - primes, fast lenses. Pero since yun yung habol mo, and at that price, i guess sulit talaga yung 24-105 compared to the 18-200/250... at least constant f4... tas maghahanap ka ng f2.8... tapos f2, f1.8, f1.4, f1.2 :D ako pababa ng pababa e. :)

Best to try out all the lenses you are choosing from and find out which one fits you. For me I like taking candid shots so an 18-200 is my choice. Sure, the 24-105L is better built but for me it lacks the longer reach of the 18-200.  I believe Sigma is on sale for the 18-200 OS at P18500 at JT Photo. However, the Sigmas I have owned have had lens creep, peeling rubber problems. Optics however are good enough for me as I am not a pro. Canon is very good but costs a bit more . Test the IS as some of the ones I have seen have erratic IS performance . You can test this by shooting in low light with the IS on. The pic should be clear with IS on. Just my thoughts

Currently using Canon 18-200mm.  I chose this as my walkaround lens pero minsan its kinda heavy na rin kaya pag meron gathering kami parang tinatamad din akong gamitin kaya minsan binabalik ko yung 18-55mm ko.

how about 24-70L?

If you can find a 24-70L that will fit his budget (35k), I'll get it and pay you 5k finder's fee.

+1 for the 24-70L kung maka hanap siya. +10 pa.
+1 for the 24-105L. I saw some 2nd hand going for 37k. Baka matawad to 35k.

sa canon ako. kung yung 24-105 at 24-70 ang kukunin mo hahanap hanapin mo yung wider end na 18.

Kung nakuha ko yung mga yon, hindi ko hahanapin ang 18mm. Take one or two steps back, ayun ang wide angle ko. Pero kahit anong gawin ko, hindi ko makukuha ang IQ ng mga L lenses na yon pag 18-200 ang binili ko.
No guts, no goto.

what if sagad ka na sa one or two steps back at hindi pa din kasya sa frame yung subjects mo?

you can always improvise  :)  either you direct your subjects to locate to an area that is visible in your frame or you can do photostitching from two or more shots  :)

Then that shot gets sacrificed for the greater good of all the others. I love L ;D

for me, i'll go for canon. tamron and sigma lenses are also great but not at par with canon, IMO.

there's always room to improvise the position of the group if you want it to fit you frame...diskarte na lang sir..iba pa rin kasi ang I.Q. ng L lens...mabalasik!

Canon 18-200. Been in this situation 2 years ago, needed a walk around lens.. I went for Canon. I also considered the Tamron 18-270 because of the reach.

i'd go with the 24-105 L kasi, sobrang handy na ung zoom nya and sometimes hindi mo rin nagagamit ung sobrang zoom, not unless sports photographer ka. pero malayo na maabot mo with that lens. :) + the ultrasonic motor really helps with the AF as well as the L lens is sharp and has good colors :)
