letter A for me. D90 is a great cam. Tammy is tack sharp and has good IQ - this will be your walk-around lens. 55-200 will be a great add for a decent tele :)

D) D90 with 18-55

ditch the battery grip since you're not really sure if you're gonna need it yet

ditch the 55-200 for the same reasons.

You can get a 50mm 1.8 since its cheap enough

The rest of the money just keep it for now for investing on better glass when you know what genre you want to get into.

D90 is a great camera as much as people tell you that the D7k is newer and far superior than the D90, remember that photography is not as tech driven as other hobbies.

go for the d7000 and look for a second hand tamron 17-50.
d90 is a great cam no doubt about it. pero it's an old technology.
since you have the budget. go for the newer one. with a greater picture quality.
faster focusing speed. 39 focusing points compared to just 11 on d90. much more higher ISO capability. and a lot more.

but if you will settle for a d90 try to get a good second hand d90 body na low actuation aroudn 5k or less than 10k (kung matyaga ka lang you can get it at around P25thou to P27thou kunin mo yung with box and complete accesories). para kung sakali na ibebenta mo ulet hindi masyadong malaki ang nalugi sayo. do not get battery grip yet kasi you are not planning to use a heavy lens pa naman e.
pitik lang ng pitik!

ofcourse on paper and numbers d7k will outgun d90, but people tend to forget the human factor.

Kala ko ba nasa indian at wala sa pana, diba yun ang favorite quote ng mga photographer dito? ::)

Being able to afford the gear does not mean that you have to buy it.

I'm looking at this as a long term investment where good glass will top a new body.

get the canon 60D body plus tammy 17-50 2.8.. no need for the 50mm 1.8 and batt grip..

just save up some more for a flash and a set of eneloops.. :)

or maybe a 7D with 28-135 or 18-135 kitlens.. ;) just an option..

thanks for your help guys :D

so dalawa nalang pinagpipilian ko.

If I buy a 2nd hand d90 I can have a budget of 35k for a lens and may flash na ako na di866.
do you think getting a d90+35k worth of lens+di866 is better than getting d7000+50mm1.8+di866?
ano ang may mas magandang IQ sa dalawa? a good lens, or a better body?

thanks guys!

If you read the Nikon 7000 thread, you'll notice that there are a lot of new happy owners of the D7000 who upgraded from D90 to D7000. The D90 is a good camera but the D7000 is much better IMO. Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is a good start and combination for DX. If you don't have the funds, stick with your kit lens for now.

I agree with the Nikon 55-200mm lens since it will most likely be used that often.

Get a nice flash as the third item if you don't have one yet.

Happy shooting!

Right now difference of price with the D90 and D7000 is 20.7k, IMO the D7k is better but for somebody starting out a D90 would be effective in the long run as the money save can be alloted to lenses.

TS, if you do save up 35k for a lens, you can just get  tamron 17-50 2.8, new or used and just save the rest of your money for later. Do not get into buying too much gear unless you know which genre you are really gonna be into.

When I bought my DSLR I only had the kitlens, and after using it for 2 years I realized that I shoot mostly at the wide end and never went beyond 40-55mm as I got into street photography. So I bought wide angle prime lenses, 28mm, 20mm etc. becuase I also realized that I don't do much zooming but I rather move around a lot. So I say that let yourself experience your kitlens and figure out where to go from there.

Among the 3, I'd choose the D7000 or the 60D.  Pero teka minute, I'm confused with your post.  In your profile, it says you have a D300 and your fave lens is the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.4D.

And then, your earlier "posts" say the following:

- Okay na Okay ang tamron 17-50  2.8 non-vc so far this is my favorite walk around lens. sulit talaga for the price.
- yeah save a little more and go for d7000, I even sold my d300 to buy one.
- I prefer the tamron 17-50 more flexibility and I love the wide side of it
- go for d7000 ganda ng iso preformance!
- 7d for me
- tamron 17-50 2.8. really sharp and fast
- walkaround lens: 50mm f1.4d and tamron 17-50 f2.8mm
- ET+ 50mm, RR+ 18-55; That is my combo in shooting macro shots

Need I go on?

Hello sir, yup dati akong d300 user and I already tried many lenses to know what field I want. And now, nabenta ko na ung d300 ko and bumaba na ung price ng d7000, kaya ko na bumili. My problem is, If I buy a d90, I can get a good lens but If I will get a d7000, my only option is 50mm or 18-55 VR. Kaya now I am really confused on what will be a better choice :l.

Right now, nabenta ko na lahat ng gear ko  ang may 61k ako + a nissin di866 flash. Kaya  I am asking for help on what you guys think a better choice hehe :D

Binenta ko sir kasi feeling ko halos same lang naman kasi sila ng d90, and for the price difference, I can already buy a good lens and student lang kasi ako, kaya wala ako source of income, most probably ung gear na mabibili ko un na ang magagamit ko for a long period of time, kaya husto ko sana ung bibilhin ko, ung maayos na para magamit ko pang matagalan.

Ang gear ko dati is d300+tamron 17-50mm2.8+nissin di866

and one more reason sir, I will have a video production subject, and I really need a DSLR with a video function. That's one major reason why I sold my d300 kahit na satisfied na sana ako sa camera ko dati. :)

thanks sir! :)

Kung video kailngan the better choice is the D7000 or 60D. Sa video department mas lamang yun 60D. Sa lens check mo nalang yun mga dating pictures mo kung anong madalas na aperture at focal length gamit mo.

Ah, keep in mind na and DSLR is built for image quality and durability kahit anong model and brand pa yan.

'Di mo rin ba na-consider ang D7000 kit? Ayos naman ang 18-105 ah.
All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best.

Nobody can tell if he would want to get a D7000 right away after getting a D90. IMHO you don't need to upgrade bodies everytime there's a new that comes out. If he knows how to handle his gear and evaluate his skills his gear would last him a couple of years.

pero kung talaga kelangan mo ng video and its part of your must-have features then, like they say, sa canon ka na nga. plus primes seems to be a better choice for videos.

the thing is always get the best you can afford/available amongst the option...we do not need to buy every upgrade kung may existing ka na but if you are starting from scratch then buy the better option. the D90 indeed is a very good camera,i had one before but disposed of it for a D700. as good as it is, the D7000 is a lot better by far. kung ako pipili sa 2,kung nag D90 ako, then pag nakita ko yun high ISO output ng D7000, mapapaisip pa ako, kahit na alam ko gamitin ng mabuti yun D90. just like buying a car, will you buy the old honda city because it is cheap? or get the new honda civic(the D7000 is a little above the D90 in tier) for a higher price na afford mo naman, with better specs and better performance as well as satisfaction value  :o :o :o

if video is your thing, canon sana sasabihin ko dahil sa options nya for videos, pero my canon friends usually end up buying old manual focus nikkors din to shoot their videos...so why not get a nikon in the first place? i do not know why they do this, sabi nila mas malinaw daw,mas madali daw gamitin yun manual focus ng nikon kasi mas swabe daw yun focus ring, and may aperture ring pa. but meron din dito akong mga kasama na canon lenses all the way ang gaganda din naman ng output...palagay ko preferences na lang nila yan...malaking bagay yung tilting LCD,believe it or not...makakatipid ka talaga kaysa bibili ka pa ng LCD separately.

Ofcourse you always have to buy the best that you can afford. But don't limit the option of "best" to just camera bodies. The D7000 maybe the best BODY right now for DX, but it's not the best OPTION.

When somebody is asking for advice on which gear to buy you don't just recommend the newer, better spec'd equipment, look at the picture as a whole. Sure he has 61k to blow, but it doesn't mean its wise to spend all his 61k. That's why I recommend going for the D90+17-50mm and set what's left of the cash aside, the D90 is not the best BODY, but this combination plus cash on the side is the best OPTION.

Assuming the TS is only gonna use the video feature for one class, then D90 should suffice, if he plans to go and videography, he should consider the 60D or 600D

what is your checklist of features that you are looking for? make a list and group those that you think you cannot compromise. perhaps writing them down and maybe share it with us can help in making the right decision.

like what i always say...if you can stretch a bit more and get the better option, then by all means get the best that you can afford. rather than selling what you just got for a loss and buying the other thing  ::)
plus the D7000 video is a lot better than the D90's video. ang layo talaga  :o :o :o i sure wished that i had the D7000 dati on my old job where i really abuse the D90's video...pero syempre wala pang D90 noon...so all i can do is make do back then...

pero kung talagang wala at mapipilitan, a used D90 is the way to go,or even a canon 550D na mas maganda video.

another thing in acquisition, always look at yourself 6 months from now, will you outgrow your gears? look at the industry, will the gear that you like be most likely be grossly outperformed? or will you be happy just to take pictures and omit the better features in favor of other stuff? will you look back and wished you got the better stuff? just like choosing a wife...you have to look at the future...tignan mo yun nanay nya, kung mataba, tataba din si misis  ::) basta ako, gusto ko pareho  kami ng hobby  :-* happy na ako kahit lumobo pa sya,may marie france naman hihihi

nangyari sa akin noon ito at medyo malaki laki na din nilugi ko from the "pwede na" attitude, selling stuff and buying the thing that i should've gotten in the first place...hindi ako master but i do use my stuff to the best of my capabilities din  ::)

wag lang matulad dun sa pobreng mama na magpapakapatay gutom makabili lang ng lens para makapag chicks. not to judge his determination pero twisted talaga yun philosophy. it is for his own good.

video performance advantages of the D7000 that the D90 does not have are the ffg:

ntsc or pal framerates, no need to resample

flicker reduction, hindi na ako mapipiltan gumamit ng ilaw na walang ballast,or rent those expensive arri lights

goodbye rolling shutter, sa D7000 meron pa din ng kaunti na lang. halos wala na...pero sa D90,mahihilo ka. a bad thing for me who does a living tracking videos,at least sa mga jobs ko noon. i hardly deal with this on my current job

a very good compression format in h264, d90 uses motion jpeg avi...not very ideal

the ability to use, mount and meter with manual focus lenses means that you can meter and do artsy fartsy stuff before you actually shoot video. and mas OK ang communication between manual focus lens and the body

100% viewfinder coverage, this is VERY essential in shooting videos. maganda pa nga kung may lampas eh,this way you can see what is going into the frame before it gets in,therefore anticipate you focus and framing.
