BSC = SOLAS.  Basic Safety Course = Safety Of Life At Sea.

It's a training required for all seafarers.

so far nagagastos ko ay less than 20K.  Wala kang babayaran sa Magsaysay, except (in pesos):

1. Marlins Test - 850
2. SOLAS - 6,500

Yang dalawa, sa Magsaysay mo dapat kukunin.  Then ung iba:

1. Medical Exam - 2950
2. Barangay Clearance (Travel Abroad), Police Clearance (Travel Abroad), NBI Clearance (Seaman)
3. Portfolio printing, kulang-kulang 2000 nagastos ko

Mga hindi ko pa nagagawa:

1. Yellow Fever Vaccine - approx 1000
2. Seaman's Book - approx 800
3. CAV (Certification, Verification, Authentication) - http://www.ched.gov.ph/services/students/cav.html
4. US Visa Application (C1/D) - 100 dollars daw, about 5000 pesos
5. NAC - I forgot what this means, but you do this after SOLAS.

Plus pamasahe, photocopy, pa-picture, pa-print, pang-snack, etc. =P

BTW, SOLAS is 8 days training.  2 days sa Tanza, Cavite, then 6 days sa Times Plaza, sa UN Ave.  Walang training on Sundays.  8am-5pm.

lucky me, i work in a call center.  i can do solas and work at the same time. pero paguran at puyatan sobra!

ung solas, walang pahinga.  maoobliga ka na mag leave sa work.  most of us either resigned or filed a leave.  sunday lang walang solas.  8am to 5pm lagi ang training.

during training, you need to wear white collard (*tama ba sfelling?) shirt, maong pants or any dark pants, black LEATHER shoes.

Nga pala, SOLAS is a wrong term to call the training.  Training is BSC - basic safety course.  SOLAS is the governing body that required BSC trainings for all seafarers.

i honestly do not know about that.  pero ang trick sa magsaysay is, always meet their deadline.  'coz if you don't, maiiwan ka ng barko.  malamang minamadali nila kasi may HIRE session ulet early next year.

Good Luck!

Sarap ng work mo bro!

Question bro, do you need a US Visa para ma-hire? And do you need to bring your own camera to the boat or they provide you the cam?

THanks!

you don't need a US Visa to apply as cruise ship photographer.  magsaysay and image will help you on that.

yep, you need to bring one camera body - nikon d70 or d70s.  im not sure about d80.

that's a big yes!  =)

they love people on/from the dark side!  ahahaha...

Image even has its own tech support for Nikon camera and lenses.  Best of all, you can purchase any Nikon body (i think lens and accessories as well - i haven't asked) at factory price!

do cruise photographers have some sort of sales quotas that need to be met?

im waiting for Johann's reply as well.  I haven't left the country yet.  My US Visa interview will be on Jan 23, 2007, then if I pass (hopefully I do), I'm leaving the country on the 27th.

Johann, any tips about the US visa as well?  How was your interview?
