PASSION! :)

A backup body kahit 2nd hand. Older models will do.  Plus a prime like a 50mm 1.8.

i am not really sure if it has a topic already with this kind. i've searched but can't find one.

i am planning to buy my dslr for me to have an extra income by shooting some small gatherings or affairs, like birthday party, baptismal, office events, home service family portrait, etc. but not wedding or other big events, for the meantime.

may i ask what are the basic photo gadgets that i would be needing? i am planning to buy the nikon d90, speedlight sb-600, its battery grip and planning to make portable backdrop stand and buy some muslin backdrops. i already have my core 2 duo desktop for some photo editing things.

thank you in advance!

nikon d90 + sb600 is a perfect match for events

kit lens mo pede na (the 18-105) because of focal length

battery grip? for me wag muna.. just buy extra batt.

buy also a tripod and off cam trigger

and if nakaipon ka na.. buy a 2nd body and lagyan mo ng wide na lente

hi everyone...

i want to start learning more regarding the business side of photography where weddings and prenup photography will be my main pool. in our office, we are planning to create a group too but i admit our group's equipment will not be at par with the others out there.

we are around 4 or 5 in the group and one officemate just bought an HD video camera for video purposes while we have canon 40d's and 450d as our dslrs. we only have kit lenses for wide shots and 55-250mm for telephoto. we have a couple of generic wireless triggers, light stands and also a couple of nissin di622 and YN460 mk2 as our flashes. as you can see, our equipment is really not that good compared to having L lenses and same camera brand flashes or pocket wizard triggers.

but we do have the passion for this endeavor...

we are working full time as graphic artists and video editors in our company and i must admit that we do have the skills with regards to designing, editing and post processing and maybe we might as well grab the opportunity to enhance our photography and editing skills and may hope some day pay some bills. hehehe

if ever the day will come we get to have some shoots, di po ba kami babaratin ng customers if they see our equipment? (in case these customers also know the best equipment of photography)

from your perspectives and if you guys are in our shoes, di ba kami magmukhang kawawa or worse, cheap in this type of trade? what if we charge customers and then someone might tell them "the price is too high compared with their equipment". this makes me worry so much. what can you guys suggest? we cant buy expensive equipment as of the moment since we are still starting out with this endeavor but we have learned a lot tinkering with our cameras the past 2 or 3 years. the equipment i mentioned is the best that we have right now. hoping for your kind and meaningful suggestions. thanks.

Hi sir,

In the wedding/engagement/events group you are making, what is your target market? If you've set your prices with the justification of cost, I'm sure hindi kayo babaratin ng clients.

Don't worry. Hindi naman GEAR ang ipapakita nyo during the meetings with your clients diba? Albums dapat. Samples dapat. Usually clients are naive with what gear is top of the line now. Of course unless you're the vain type na dala dala yung mga pro bodies and lenses nila everywhere :P

Once the contract is signed, panindigan mo yung quality of images mo that you showed them with your gear. The kit lenses take sharp shots, pero ilaw ang magiging achilles' heel niyo since both lenses are slow. Compensate nalang, whether doing a lot more strobist shots, or what-have-you. Basta push your gear to the limits, as well as pushing your creativity to the limits as well :)

And of course, practice practice. Sa wedding lalo, hindi puwedeng "OJT" ang Main photographer. :D
