A Guide for upgrading cameras for the Intermediate user

Thank God i found this thread. Very imformative for those who has "GAS" :p
I'll definitely re-visit this thread 6months from now...

Definitely a good read and puts a lot of things in perspective.
Personally, while I put my 400d in high regard, it has already shown me its limitations in events and landscape photography. Though investing in a good lens does wonders, it is still limited by the drawbacks in the body and the photographer, as you mentioned, compromises with that which he has and his imagination.
After more than 4 years of using my 400d, I still find myself being surprised with something that I can do with it. It is a very capable travel camera for me. But for my portrait and landscape, I think that going full frame is the way to go and the 5DM2 is a significant and hefty upgrade for me.

Very well said sir, and I am referring to everything and every point you mentioned. I believe it's just actually the companies strategy to release what seems to be upgrade every year or less just to increase the sales and because it is appealing for the consumers. But come to think of it, they are just making more of a side grade than an upgrade in my own personal opinion.
I also would like to point out the common misleading MegaPixel trend that people get attracted to these days. Honestly I think - unless if you are always making photos for large prints - you don't need much megapixels, cause in my own experience as a wedding photographer making 8x10 or 12x12 albums, 10mp is enough. And the higher the mp is, the larger your images files will be, making it a problem sometimes.
centralperk:
Just to add to your last point. The higher the mp is on the same sized sensor the higher the noise is. But I think the extra mp is useful for landscapers because it adds more detail to the picture.
But yeah, if you're not going to crop your picture I think the sweet spot for me is 12mp. Unfortunately that's not the direction the camera makers are going. Thankfully they're improving their noise reduction as they increase the mp size so it's not a huge problem.

Great thread... I'm planning to sell my 600d to upgrade to the 5dm2. When doing video for events I find the 600d really hits the limit at about ISO 400 when it comes to image quality.
