If you are in my position, what would you choose?
« on: July 19, 2009, 10:15:37 AM »
Hi guys, i need your help. If you are in my position, which of the three would you choose?

- Sigma 30mm 1.4
- Nikkor 35mm 1.8
- Nikkor Micro 60mm 2.8

All of these will AF on my D60. I just want to know which is more advisable to buy. I will use mainly it for portraiture. Btw, I already have a Nikkor 50mm 1.8.

Hope you guys could help me.  :)

For hardcore portraiture, get the 60mm. the longer the better :)

pero pwede din wide. take for example. http://www.flickr.com/photos/threefourmedia/

amazing yung paggamit niya ng UWA for portraits. gives it a whole new dimension.

I will probably want the 35mm Nikkor. When I was still into films, I have a 35mm lens in my M4 and I use it as my everyday lens. I use it as my standard lens instead of a 50. For portraiture I will dare to  say  that you can use any lens you like.

its a choice between the 35mm nikkor and the 60mm AF-S. the 35mm is more versatile,it should focus faster i presume. and lighter to carry all day in a tiny bag.

the 60mm has incredible optics. but i assume that this thing focuses a bit slow just like the rest of the macros can anybody confirm this? its bigger as well...

get both. they will serve their own purpose...

ill choose the 60mm AFS kasi you can do portrait and micro. its a double purpose with its 2.8 pa nasa safe zone ka kung  baga.

I would wait for the Tamron 60mm F2 Macro IF and pair it with the 35mm F1.8 AF-S.

i would suggest sana 85mm f/1.8 since you like shooting portrait. sadly hindi sya mag AF sa D60..

personal preference, i'll buy a 35mm f/1.8. i can shoot indoors with this without much problem kung maliit ang space.

pero kung plan mo rin mag shoot ng macro, get the dedicated macro lens na. i have the AF version, and it's pretty sharp. kita blemishes ng subject mo hehehe

i would go for the 35mm for portraiture  :)
field of view is more flexible than the 60mm
sa tingin ko kasi mas okay na lumapit sa subject kesa sa umatras

at tama si @RobertReyes, kung indoors, tight spaces and lowlight ang paguusapan mas flexible pa rin ang 35mm in terms of lighting exposure and field of view...
I'm a photoshooter... who wants to get shot?! <^.^?

sell/replace (w/ 50 AF-S) your 50/1.8 coz it will not AF on your D60. 60/2.8 macro would be my choice if ever. or wait for Tamron 60mm f/2 macro.

I would go for the 60 2.8 or the Sigma 30 1.4, kung portraits ang trip mo the 60 is the way. kung for walkaround the sigma is it, ive handled this sigma before and its really good. the build and optics is better than the Nikkor, ang badtrip lang dito sa lenteng ito ay mabigat sya para sa prime lalo kung sa D40/x/60 naka mount >:(

For portraiture you don't want a lens shorter than 50mm. Search and you will know why  ;D

@allanpruna

the nikkor 60mm, being a macro lens, probably would be one of the sharpest lens you'll ever get your hands into. so sharp that sometimes its quite unflattering for your model.

ill choose the 60mm AFS kasi you can do portrait and micro. its a double purpose with its 2.8 pa nasa safe zone ka kung  baga.

i have the older 60mm AFD version. this is indeed a wide aperture lens BUT not consant at 2.8. in my experience, this lens varies in maximum aperture size depending on how close you are to your subject. not sure about the newer afs tho. im sure the macro people here could enlighten us.  :)

From your choices I would go for the 30mm or 35mm for group shots and low light indoor situations

Get the nikon 35mm 1.8. There's a reason why this is so hard to find nowadays.

I have this lens and i'm telling you it's great! You won't regret.

Parang wala naman difference gaano yn 35mm vs 50mm na 1.8.
Tapos kung portrait naman controlled naman yun environment.
So I'd suggest sticking with what you have for now.

Unless you really have a reason to go to f/1.4, though ang hirap naman gamitin. pag 1.4 yun ilong sharp yun tenga nde na
