XXD is better in built and in features. But xDs are the best. The amount of megapixels are not the basis if the camera is good or not. The sensor size and iso performance are usual keys in looking into a good DSLR.

do they differ in iso performance if they have the same iso level categories..

eg. like xxd models has  iso value of 100 - 3200, while xxxd models has 100- 1600.

btw.. i have tried this so called wasai hack ,   a firmware hack that enables some features that is disabled by default.

eos 300d has a default value of 1600 iso max but with the hack, it reaches up to 3200 (h).  ang galing. pati mirror lockup meron narin..

depends of the release date of the models.
XXd's are always higher end models than xxxd's

xxxd's are entry level units. Designed for casual shooters. Smaller and no weather sealing.

xxd's are semi-pro units. Designed for professionals and serious amateurs. Bigger, better control, faster fps, secondary top LCD, weather-sealed tougher body.

Cheers!

xxD bodies are not weather-sealed - only the current 1D models and some older ones from the 1 series are weather-sealed.

The 40D and 50D (and 5DII) come with some weather-sealing, but have nothing like the sealing you find in the true pro bodies.

Just FYI.

Yup! Thanks for the clarification.

Only 1D models are completely weather sealed. The xxd models only have partial weather sealing (ie. the dust seals at the CF card and battery compartments). Compared to xxxD models, the xxD's have better weather sealing. It's tougher magnesium alloy body also provides better weather resistance.

Cheers!

Talking about the same generation cameras, the xxD's will always outshine the xxxD's.  However...

Usually, shortly after the release of the latest xxD, the next generation of xxxD will come out, usually with new features that might making you second-guess getting the older xxD (for example, the 40D vs. the 450D).  However again...

Generally the new features in the next model xxxD are still not enough to overcome the more professional build of the most recent xxD (at least for me), so I'd still go for the xxD.

More pixels does not necessarily mean it's better, especially for the enthusiast photographer like me.

Let's put it into more concrete terms:  are you considering a 50D against a 500D?  Or is it more like a 450D vs. 50D?

Comparing the camera series is inherently unreliable. xxD beats xxxD only if they are of the same generation. Comparing a new xxxD with an old xxD is a different story. For example, the 450D autofocuses faster and even has more AF points than the 10D. So it's better to compare specific camera models rather than the series.

I have a rebel eos xsi (450d), but instead of upgrading to 500d nag upgrade ako into 50d just last week. And so far no regrets....nakakainis lang kasi biglang lumang model naman ang 450d ko which is only a year old. :)

As what Tyler Stalman said years ago, you can get top quality and high notch pictures even in a 550D. W/ that being said, I've got great photos w/ my 400D years back then. The xxxD vs xxD war will continue but there is only 1 answer for it and it's a question 1 should ask themselves: What would I be doing w/ it. Both series have their own pro's and con's plus the fact that Canon keeps on upgrading their xxxD is just bananas. I think the best xxxD series is still the 550D. As far as the xxD, I'd pick the 40D as a primary workhorse. But, if I'll get 50k, I'd buy neither... But a 5D classic plus a decent FF glass. Either way, it's the photographer's skills that matter in the end.
