I just got a tamron 24-75 f/2.8 from hidalgo yesterday at 16k so far its doing well.
Its a little bit soft at f 2.8 but really sharp at f4 medyo naninibago pa ko sa af speed nya parang mabagal.

Hi, I have the Tokina 28-80. So far, I am impressed with its performance. Focuses fast and image quality for me is spot on. I got this lens 2nd hand from Japan and its 9.9/10 in condition.

Here is a sample pic;

I used to be a proud owner of the Tokina 28-80. The lens is pro-grade quality and its built like a Tank compared to the Tamrons. This lens is really very sharp!I would have kept the lens but i chose the all Nikkor line-up.

lled: hello, kinuha mo ba sya kasama ng body?  :o :o :o
at f/2.8 ano ang settings mo? tsaka noticeable ba talaga yun softness talaga? thanks

d50 and francis:
the tokina is my first choice. however, the availabiltiy if the lens is a bit of a problem  :o :o :o
how does this compare with the optical performance of the tamron? i also read contrasting reviews about this lens...some love it while some will curse at tokina  :o :o :o
i am glad that you found your units to be in good optical performance

And just to add AF is fast. Its hard to find theses lenses and can only be purchased imported from Japan.I got mine 2nd hand at 20k.

And just for trivia you might want to check this link: ;)

Its hard to find and people who own them would really think twice in letting it go (Unless its for a Nikkor). Its definitely a keeper.I'm not sure if Dave Villaruel (of NCP) can still source this since he's the only person I know that sells these magnificent lens.

Hi Francis,

Was wondering what Nikkor you got to replace the Tokina and how they compare. Re the Tokina, if it's like the 12-24 or the 80-200 then it must also be a great lens. Have the Tamron 28-75. The IQ is acceptable especially stopped down (point against though, because one of the reasons you get a 2.8 is you want to use it with good results at 2.8). But am a bit put off by its tendency to hunt focus in low-contrast situations. Best bang for the buck as it's cheaper, but against the Tokina which is just a bit pricier? Hmm...

hello,ben...
my reason for having the tokina compared against the tamron is the build quality...if its just a few thousand pesos more expensive but optically similar, then id get the tokina  :o :o :o

so,how about a sigma naman? theres a thread here comparing the sigma and the tamron...mixed din ang reviews hehehe

my only reason if ever im gonna buy a sigma is the aftersales,if the sigma lens can compete with these 2,then  may consider it.

i dont have both but if i were to buy, i'll get Tamron (at least according to reviews).

Tamron 28-75 2.8
Tokina 28-80 2.8

also consider Sigma 24-70 2.8 HSM

mariano: thanks a lot for the links  :o :o :o
ive been reading them and i was quite turn-off by the tamron bec of the rotating front when focusing...does the tokina and sigma do the same?
apart from the construction, people usually like the tamron's IQ...

Sir, isang beses pa lang ako naka-hawak ng Sigma 24-70 HSM, higante na lente, malaki at mabigat. 80mm or more pa ang filter size e.

Or baka may mga mas-magagaling na indyan dyan with good action/low-light sample fotos using the Tamron?

BTW, hindi naman nag-ro-rotate yung front ng Tamron 28-75 sa focusing, kaya ok siya with CPLs. Cheers sir!

Rico, there is another Tokina 28-80 coming in 2 weeks time. Pa reserve ka na kay Dave Villaruel (sa NCP).
Just read his post at NCP.
