The incremental cost of an original Sandisk is worth the performance and most especially the peace of mind for me.

Well said!

I have used Sandisk from 1gb, 2gb and now 4gb and 8gb soon! won't buy any other brand

For a Canon 50D(15 MP)or 5D MKII(21 MP)DLSR camera, would it make a difference if I upgraded from a Sandisk Extreme III to an Extreme IV CF card?Would it also be worth it?
Thanks.

Hmm AFAIK hindi, unless you're firing off RAW bursts...20mb/s minimum sustained for the III vs. 40mb/s sustained for the IV. Maybe the 50D might find it more useful (6.3fps x 3+mb for JPG), but in real-world shooting I;m not sure if it's noticeable...

Extreme IIIs and IVs are worth it.  Transcend 266x and up are also worth it.  You just have to decide if your pics are worth the extra 2-3K.  For me it is as i have experienced on several occasions  cheap CF cards crash during key moments.  I saw one crash while downloading and i don't wish that on anybody.

How bout SD Cards?

My 450D came with a Patriot 2GB Card. Is it advisable to buy cheap SD Cards?

my ridata failed on me before. the worth of the pics is more than the price difference between cheap CFs and sandisk.

mahal lang talaga ang lexar hehe.

I hear all sorts of problems with Ridata. But I did buy a Sandisk 4gig Micro SD back when it just came out. I paid a huge premium for it because it wasn't common yet. But after I bought it, when I checked it on my PC, it only had 2gig capacity. Even though it was clearly branded as 4 gig. I was so upset (as anyone would be) and I contacted Sandisk, both here and regionally. This was bought at the airport in Amsterdam and was completely original. Still, the Sandisk people didn't care. They emailed back offering some kind of software upgrade that never worked and then just gave up. They basically told me that there's nothing they could do and refused to help or replace it. So for that reason alone, I will NEVER buy Sandisk ever again.

Just my two cents

hi! i have a pair of 2gb sandisk SDs and a pair of 4GB sandisk SD. none have failed me yet.

as the previous posters have said, if you're shooting something really important, it's best to go with original, branded and trusted names like sandisk and lexar.

oh yeah, for those with cameras that can shoot at 5fps or higher, the faster data transfer rates of these cards really help.

happy shooting!
try to get things right before firing the shutter. it's harder to fix things later using software. you're better off doing something else... like taking more pictures. =)

I bought mine almost a year ago now and it was about p6000. I purchased it off of Ebay. I am very happy with the speed and the size of the card. I don't have to swap out cards which is a plus especially when I'm shooting weddings and sports.

For the 5DMKII, get the fastest CF cards you can buy. The sustained data rate of HD video will benefit much from the speed and additional data headroom.

for some people, reliability is more important than the cost.

Cheers!
