sandisk worth the price?
« on: January 20, 2009, 01:57:27 AM »
Hi, since we can get a cheap memory cards from cdr king even less than 1k for a 4gig sd card. is it still advisable to buy a original sandisk?  i never experience loss of data from those cheap sd cards.  is buying those branded sd/cf cards guarantee no error on their cards? also does sandisk have a bundle software to recover loss data?

If your work depends on it, I'd say yes.

I'd say yes also ;) Encountered a lot of corrupted data using Ridata CF cards as well.  I'm sure others have no problems with it; maybe I was just unlucky enough to get some lemons. But still most of our images are irreplaceable. I now use original Sandisk Extreme III and IV. Both are reliable and high speed to boot ;D Just wish I could afford the Ducatis ;D

The incremental cost of an original Sandisk is worth the performance and most especially the peace of mind for me.

i think sandisk (or Lexar)  are worth the price plus unlike before its not as costly.  I got a extreme 3 16GB for roughly 3.6K in HK whereas before nasa 6K up ata yun.  32GB are coming in na kasi kaya naka sale na mga 16GB

agree. do invest in quality memory cards.

of course don't depend ONLY on the cards. do make it a habit to get your photos out of your card/s and into your HDD soon as you can and practice sensible back-up practices.

had some sandisk extreme II, and transcend...

so far I only jad 2 files corrupted using the transcend 133x 4gb. it happened on the last 2 picture before the card get full... so i guess... dont make it full, leave some space in the CF...

after that i never had problem with my CF...

and some file can be salvages using a software.... i forgot what is the software...

but if ur budget permits, by all means get the sandisk ( original )....

that is my 2 cents

My thoughts exactly. Used to have a pair of non-Sandisk cards, and the images on one of them just got corrupted without any warning. After that I swore them off and now use only Sandisk -- just for peace of mind.

Maybe you mean III?

IIRC, its Ultra II > Extreme III > Extreme IV > Ducati Version.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

sandisk is absolutely worth it! its reliable, you get your money's worth., its ok to buy the cheap ones however its open to accidents.

in my field of sports photography i cant risk on having accidents and have some of my prize shots corrupted, thats why i only use sandisk ducati and III as back up. my humble take on this matter

I think Sandisk cards are worth it. I'm using a Sandisk Extreme III 4Gb Cf and I never experienced any problems or corrupted files.
I also have a Transcend 4gb 133x Cf card and sometimes I have one or two corrupted images. I also have older transcend card but I didn't get corrupted images.

But the next time I buy again it will be Sandisk for my peace of mind.  :)

For me, if your life or work depends on it, then by all means, go Sandisk.  I shoot as a hobbyist and the cheap branded ones are okay like Transcend, Toshiba etc.

I've used a Transcend 4-GB SD card on my O2 XDA Exec phone all day everyday for 3 years and it never failed. That card recorded data constantly everyday as my phone kept in sync with our company's Exchange server. I still use that SD card now on my camera. And I use 4 other Transcend SD cards that have also never failed. I have a Transcend 8-GB microSDHC Class 6 card now on my HTC Touch Pro phone. I will never buy cheap memory cards. But I will buy Transcend cards.

Transcend gets new products on the market quickly. Several months after Transcend launched its 16-GB SDHC Class 6 card, SanDisk produced a slower Class 4 version. By the time SanDisk had finally launched a 16-GB SDHC Class 6 card, Transcend's version had already been on the market (and in my camera) for almost a year.

I'm happy with the Sandisk Extreme III 8GB a friend got from HK. Have taken about 3000 shots with the new card, about 90% RAW files, and happy to note so far so good.

Encountered problems with my Ridata 8GB CF card before that, which is what prompted me to go for a Sandisk. It reached a point where only about 30% of what I shot (which was about 120 shots) was accessible, the rest were corrupted.  :-\ Luckily, with the help of PC Inspector, I was able to restore most of the pix that were missing, but not without casualties and a lot of time spent waiting for the restore process to complete.
