New type of SD Card
« on: January 08, 2009, 11:39:06 PM »
There's a new type of SD card released in the Consumer Electronics Show in the US and its called SDXC (extended capacity).  It's way bigger than the SDHCs clocking in at 104MB-300MB per second with a total memory size of up to 2TeraBytes (TB).  Whoah....

But then again, is it safe to keep all you eggs - in this case your multimedia files like photos - all in one basket? But the large storage does make your hard drives look sooo obsolete.

I almost always download pics after using my cameras so no need for super big cards. Innovation is always good so prices come down, I remember when the first 128 SD came out, I got one for $110!

wow, prices have gone down so much that you can keep shooting and never have to delete any picture... at around P100 per gig nowadays you can just keep every card in a file and buy a new one everytime you fill it up... it's cheaper than buying & developing 1 roll of 36-shot film.

Well, with the proliferation of HD videocams you'll really need a lot of space -- it'll be tough swapping out cards every 10 minutes while shooting an event, for example ;)

OT: still remember buying a 128MB flashdrive for P2.5k...

wow.... just when i got my 16gb card... looks like it won't last for long.

i guess with the pixels in our digital cameras getting bigger and bigger, we'll soon be needing all the capacity and speed these cards can offer. i wonder how many pixels is enough.

I bought mine for 7k... a 100 mb hard drive!  ;D

I use memory card from a reputable brand, like sandisk, to be sure of its quality  :)

cheers!
