What's the best type of background for studio?
« on: December 07, 2008, 07:59:35 PM »
Ask ko lang, I think there are different types. I have small paper background from Savage, pero may nakita kasi akong paper background na parang nabasa at hindi na siya flat. Parang may tambok tambok. Okay ba ang paper backgrounds?
Tapos ang meron ako nakita sa DPI, at sa studio ni Sir Ken Go. Anong klaseng materials po ito?

At eto nakita ko online:
1.) Paper
2.) Canvas
3.) Washable ng Aperture (Ano ito?)
4.) Muslin

Alin-alin, alin ang maganda? :)
L lenses have really helped my photography, because I ran out of excuses.

Paper when properly storred and used will be the most effecient, it doesn't absorb the light as much as the washable type. Meaning using a weaker backlight is possible, on the other hand paper as you have seen are easily damaged, the only solution is to cut the damaged portion, which is as often as every shoot. THis will end up costing much more. The washable type, the one you have seen in my studio, are more durable, prone to creases and you can use a wet rag to clean it, the problem is it does absorb quite an good amount of light, thus a stronger backlight is required.

Thank you sir Ken :) I guess now I'll look for the best washable type I can find and compare it to paper.

try tarpaulin.  you can have something printed on one side and have a white background on the other side  :)

Thanks sir, but the problem with tarpaulin, lalo na yung may print, eh mahal yung print, hehe... the cheapest I found was 4200 for 3.5 feet by 7.5 feet... mas mura pa paper or washable backgrounds. And I think the shiny surface of tarp wont help either.

Tarpaulin are not reccomended because of its highly reflective nature, this will cause unwanted and uncontrollable highlights in your photo. What is preferred is matte surfaces for seamless backgrounds.

Bumili ako dati sa tutuban ng tela, pero yung pinakamalapad na nakita ko eh 96 width na para sa bedsheets. Ang talagang pang background eh muslin, pero nagtanong ako sa tutuban, di nila alam ano yun.

I have a gray washable-type background. Magkakaroon ng crease when you fold it, pero mabilis namang bumabalik sa ayos (sa dati). ;)

Hello Ken,

This washable type background that you are using in your studio, is this similar to http://www.tayhua.com/canvasbackground.html? Your prompt reply is highly appreciated! Thanks!

Jek
