am using my dad's NIKON FM camera. obsolete na nga eh.
ngayon naghahanap ako ng camera for me. my own.

nikon din since hindi sya madali masira.
ano bang maganda?
film slr lang. since low budget.
ung nakita ko sa ebay.pg n4004s something.
tingin nyo maganda ba un?
may lens na rin na 80-200mm.

Try going for newer generation AF cameras, since they provide better metering and af. Used F80's are pretty affordable nowadays.

regarding sa n4004s, maganda lang ito pag full manual kasi sa dials nya imo. pero problemado ang auto-focus nya. medyo mabagal. if your looking to learn photography, pwede yan kasi full manual pero meron ibang slr models siguro mas maganda na approximately same price.

I think you can get one between 10-12k depending on the condition for the body only. Another alternative is the F65, which is cheaper but still a good camera.

un nga eh. i wanna learn with a full manual cam... para naman hindi ako masanay sa digital kagad. para mapakita ko pa rin ung creative side ko.

Wow your dad's getting into Medium Format!  These things only get bigger and bigger the more "pro" you get!  ::)

un nga eh. i wanna learn with a full manual cam... para naman hindi ako masanay sa digital kagad. para mapakita ko pa rin ung creative side ko.

thanks!

IMO, you might learn faster shooting with any digital camera with manual controls (not necessarily a DSLR) because of the instant feedback.  It lets you experiment at a fast pace.  Though there is the tendency to shoot a lot there's nothing wrong with that per se, as long as you review each shot and try to improve with every shot.

On the flipside, this is not to say that film is not a good way to learn.  Some of the really good photographers that I know started with film and have a certain discipline with making every shot count that I don't. :D

Just my two cents!

the mamiya cam is so big.
and kung may snatcher or some bad elements, pag hinampas mo ng mamiya baka mapatay ko pa eh.
hehe.

may dad's thinking about handing me down his d70.
sabi ko kasi mukha akong kawawa sa fppf. hehe.
paawa effect ba.

kaya un.
he doesn't want me to buy camera other than nikon.

If he does hand it over, just take it and run!  Touch move na yun!  The D70 is a great camera to have.  :D

another member of the darkside  ;D

F80 is a very good film cam.. i believe thats where they based the design and controls of the D70.

i also have to agree that going digital is more economical (not necessarily that you'll learn faster).  expensive na nga magpa develop ng film.  with digital you can allow yourself to experiment without thinking of the cost of printing ;D

pero i still do have much respect to film shooters.  especially the purist!!

good luck po!

Your FM is a very good camera - stick with it  and just buy an AF flim camera for back up. I have used several  Nikon cameras and my opinion is that the manual focus cameras like FM/F3/FE produce better photos than the AF counterparts. If you decide to go AF,  don't get the F401 or the others in this series. I have owned them and ended up selling as AF is slow. They also have a weak spot in the back cover latch which beaks easily. Get the  F60, F80, F75 as these are better units. Remember you cannot use the lenses of your FM on the AF cameras. If you want to use MF lenses, get the F801, F70 or F90.

The Durability and quality of Nikons are no laughing matter... they're probably the most durable consumer camera / DSLRs in the country (as stated here:http://www.pinoyphotography.org/forum/index.php?topic=3379.msg49119#msg49119) hehehe

Pro on a more serious note, lambingin mo na daddy mo to get the D70, it's a very capable tool in the right hands. Also keep a film body as backup (you never know).

Peace!
