Bad copies only applicable to 3rd party lenses?
« on: July 21, 2008, 06:46:08 AM »
Id like to know if "bad copies" (e.g. front or rear focus issues) are only applicable to 3rd party lenses. Like, will i get that peace of mind if im going to buy lenses from CDSC/Canon stores, and not grey units (Hidalgo)? Will such focusing issues still be applicable to CDSC/Canon units?

I would really appreciate your inputs/experiences. Thanks.

Hi again.  :
"Bad copies" are not confined to gray units. It hasn't happened to me but I know some cases of what you call "bad copy" lenses which came from CDSC and Canon stores. Focus issues can also be experienced with  said units. However, you get peace of mind that you can have your copy replaced or calibrated free of charge (if it's still under warranty).

There hasn't been any manufacturers of any electronic/mechanichal goods that can guarantee 100% no defects, thus warranties exist. The advantage of the big brands is they do have service centers here, unlike Tamron, Tokina and etc.

yup kahit saan meron...

it doesnt mean naman na pag 3rd party na lens is hindi na maganda ... i agree with the ff info na may mga lemons talaga ..

i guess nasa sa iyo na rin yun.. most shops wont let you test equipment unless your willing to buy one ..

as long as bibili ka .. hanggat hindi ka satisfied sa copy mo .. magpakuha ka ng iba ..

ibang tindahan kasi dadaanin ka sa hiya so in the long run mapipilitan ka lang bumili kahit hindi ka pa satisfied.

Usually if it back / front focuses, meaning if the lens doesn't focus on your focusing point and instead focuses on the background or the foreground. There are also lenses that are not as sharp as what's expected, usually you find its a bad copy if you compare your lens to another lens of the same model and the other one tends to be sharper even if you use manual focusing with your lens already.
